For the second time my recordings disappeared. Switching the box off and on via the switch on the back causes the recordings to appear again.

It seems Samsung believe that they have already resolved this bug, here's the messages between me customer services.

Please follow the instructions below which should rectify the problems you have been experiencing. Please note that this procedure will remove any timers you have in place to record future programmes. Your previously recorded items will remain unchanged.
1. Press the MENU button on your remote control.
2. Select the SETTINGS menu.
3. Select the SYSTEM sub menu.
4. Select the RESET TO DEFAULTS option.
5. Enter your PIN code (this will be 0000 unless you have changed it
yourself).
6. Select RESET TO DEFAULTS again.
7. The FreeSat box will reboot itself and then ask you basic start up questions.
8. Enter your postcode (remember to leave a space between the two parts
of your postcode).
9. After this the box will perform a channel and new software scan.
10. Please check your library where your previously recorded programmes
should all be accessible now.
If this procedure has not rectified the problem please contact us again with details of any changes.
If you require any further assistance, please contact Samsung again and we will be more than happy to help.
My response:
Hi,
I understand a reset as you have mentioned in your reply can be
performed.
Will the reset also remove the channels I have added in non-freesat mode?
The recordings haven't disappeared again since shortly after sending my original message without performig a reset.
If this issue can be resolved at the development level so the recordings don't disappear thus no reset is required that would he great.
Thank you
Regarding your inquiry, please be advised that the reset will not remove your channels, however it will lose any timers you have set to record programmes. You may also want to update the firmware of your Freesat box. You can do this by clicking on the following link and downloading the latest firmware version, then save it onto a blank USB pen. Finally you will need to insert the USB pen containing the update into the
Freesat box and go to update within the menu.
http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mo.../XEU-downloads
If you require any further assistance, please contact Samsung again and we will be more than happy to help.
I then replied stating I have the latest firmware and their response asked to reset to defaults, install update via USB and reset to default again.

I haven't actually done this so maybe this is a permanent fix?

I replied stating I have the latest firmware, mentioned the recordings disappeared again, resolved it as mentioned earlier by turning the box off and on again and I also linked to recent comments in this thread about recordings disappearing.

Samsung have since replied to ask if they can take the box away for repairs hence the question about their response before potentially resulting in a permanent fix.

Don't let them take your box, your box is not faulty, it just has badly written software, they ALL do this. Samsung wanted to take my box last year a day before they released the update fixing most of their problems. Their customer service and communication is beyond a joke. The person you are dealing with obviously doesn't know they've acknowledged the problem and a fix will be ready in May.

Will this machine work with only one feed? I'm not really bothered about recording one channel whilst watching another...

I set one of these up for my brother a few weeks back but didn't check at the time.

I have just bought this STB, and can confirm that it will work with just one feed. I just plugged the sat cable that our Sky was on, and it works.

My problem, if anyone can help, is that sometimes when you enter the channel number directly, ie 105, it says "cannot receive this programme, please check connection", but when you use the channel up button and then channel down.....it comes on! Any ideas?

Cheers,

Gaz

I had the same problem intially. But once I had used the P+/P- button to get the channel 'locked on', as it were, those channels never gave the 'cannot receive/check connection' again. I've had the box a week now and the problem no longer occurs.

Indeed, it will not even go to Samsung but a third party repair company they use.

My one went back to them months ago and must be mentioned in this thread somewhere.

Hi,

I had this problem a number of months ago. I traced the problem to the LNB cables, just before they entered the back of the stb. they were routed with a serious bend in the cable. I let the cables arc naturally and never saw the problem again.
Hope this helps.

I just ordered one of these to go with a new Samsung LED TV in the bedroom. The Freesat box will be going in the wardrobe, and I read on here that is supports HDMI-CEC (or Anynet+ as Samsung call their implementation), as does the TV.

Has anyone got this working, and most crucially, will I be able to use the Freesat remote control to operate the box via the TV?

I had this problem initially. Problem was solved by running installation wizard and choosing 1 cable in the antenna setup field. Have you done that?

I have one with a Samsung 5000 series LED TV. Both worked out of the box with the S7800's remote. The remote even has TV and STB buttons in case you need to change any menu settings on the TV. Flip to TV, make your changes, flip back to STB. In STB mode it will still control the TV's volume and all sorts of other functions so you don't have to keep flipping the mode.

Is there any setup needed for this? I can't get this to work with my panasonic Viera TV which also "complies" with HDMI standards, using Viera-Link which is meant to be compatible. The volume control always controls the set top box volume, so you end up having the TV volume really loud and use the STB volume to avoid pressing TV/STB buttons all the time.

My sisters Samsung TV recognised the S7800 box as an Anytime+ device without the need for any other set up. However even after putting in a code to the S7800 remote it still only controls the STB volume when in STB mode. My own Sammy TV does not recognise my Humax box as an Anytime+ device and I had the same volue issues, these were solved when I got a Harmony 300 (well I think it is the 300) remote.

Ok, got it home and all plugged in. Almost working perfectly with the Anytime+, apart from 2 critical problems:

1) The 'Lib' button does not work when operating the box via the TV (does nothing)
2) The power on button does not work when operating the box via the TV (although it does automatically go to Standby when you turn the TV off).

All other buttons work fine, I can access the Guide, Channels, set up programs to record, all operating via the TV with the Freesat box in the wardrobe.

Not being able to access the Lib is going to be a pain though, I have to get up and open the wardrobe door if I want to watch a recording

Anyone had this and solved it, any ideas?

just had the missing library problem again. Was annoyed because I have not had the problem for months. Infact I have only had it once before.

I realised when I was resetting the box that I had set the Power Save mode to on a few days ago. I wonder if the change of setting has caused a problem?

Anyway samsung will obviously find out about it again

Hi everyone,

I've recently connected my new SMT-S7800 to my Samsung UE46D6530 TV along with my BD-D6500 Bluray player.

When I select the bluray player from the TV's Source select menu (ie "HDMI-CEC BD Player"), if the Bluray player isn't already switched on, it will switch on automatically and the TV will switch to the Bluray HDMI. However, if I select the new Freesat box (ie "HDMI-CEC STB"), if the Freesat box isn't switched on, it will not auotomatically switch on and I get the "device not connected" error message on the TV screen and the "HDMI-CEC STB" input will disappear from the TV's Source select menu.

Has anyone else got this Freesat recorder connected to a Anynet+ Samsung TV? Does this happen to you?

Many thanks,
Dave

Here is there response.

"I am sorry you are having problems with your freesat box and I
understand this is frustrating. Our developers are currently working in
a software update at present but we have had no information on the
release date which should be Q1"

So if you like to look into this too far, we SHOULD see an update by the end of March.

Seems odd they have no idea for a date but it will be Q1.

Plus they have issued a specific date in may for another issue.

Before contacting Samsung can someone please provide feedback on the following.

As there are free to air channels not available in freesat mode, I've added them in non-freesat mode and I've also recently added the channels available in freesat mode with the idea being that switching between modes would no longer be necessary when a programme on a freesat mode channel was about to record.

(I've also added all the channels as favourites so they can be renumbered to the respective Sky EPG numbers)

"Eastenders" was already set to record today via a series linked and today I also set "how do they do it?" series link.

My sister wanted to watch "eastenders" but it wasn't in the respective folder but "How do they do it?" did record.

"Super smart animals" was also set to record and "Coronation Street" previously via series link. In this case "Coronatio Street" didn't record.

So is there a limitation in non-freesat mode that doesn't allow 2 programmes to be recorded at the same time unlike freesat mode? I hope there isn't but this seems to be the case.

Thank you

Can anyone help with a problem watching avi./Xvid files from a USB stick. The sound drops out intermittantly. The files play fine from the USB on the 2 laptops in our house. Is this a known issue?

Thanks

I've since recalled that two programmes have successfully recorded at the same time in non-freesat mode before this. Gxoibg through the EPG today the programme listings aren't complete and this may have been the cause.

Switching to freesat and back to non-freesat mode seems to have resolved this. I'll keep an eye on this issue.

Also thank you for the replies to my earlier post about Samsung asking if I can return the box.
