Seems odd they have no idea for a date but it will be Q1.

Plus they have issued a specific date in may for another issue.

Automan are updates done via dish or ethernet cable, mine could not find an update when I searched, but accepted version 5.0.300 using usb stick.

Can anyone help with a problem watching avi./Xvid files from a USB stick. The sound drops out intermittantly. The files play fine from the USB on the 2 laptops in our house. Is this a known issue?

Thanks
If you use a program like mencoder (if you like batch files!) or formatfactory (windows) - both free - and make sure your file is 25fps dead on - you will get better results. Unfortunately lip-sync seems to be a harder one to get rid of.

The last update was July 2011.

Assuming they are still transmitting that a new box when you first run setup would look for it or I guess newer stock may already be on the July release.

Hi everyone,

I've recently connected my new SMT-S7800 to my Samsung UE46D6530 TV along with my BD-D6500 Bluray player.

When I select the bluray player from the TV's Source select menu (ie "HDMI-CEC BD Player"), if the Bluray player isn't already switched on, it will switch on automatically and the TV will switch to the Bluray HDMI. However, if I select the new Freesat box (ie "HDMI-CEC STB"), if the Freesat box isn't switched on, it will not auotomatically switch on and I get the "device not connected" error message on the TV screen and the "HDMI-CEC STB" input will disappear from the TV's Source select menu.

Has anyone else got this Freesat recorder connected to a Anynet+ Samsung TV? Does this happen to you?

Many thanks,
Dave
Just bumping this question. I'm sure someone out there has their SMT-S7800 connected to a Samsung Anynet+ TV. It would be really helpful to me if anyone with such a set up could advise whether selecting the HDMI-CEC STB connection form the TV's source select menu causes their Freesat box to automatically switch on if it wasn't on already.

Thanks.

Anyone know if Sansung are taking the SMT-7800 seriously yet?

The lack of a recording padding feature is killing me, we have missed the start and end of several recordings of late. It's all very well for Samsung and the broadcasters to squabble amnongst themselves about who is to blame, but poor old comsumers are the ones suffering.

I also had a very strange lockup. We werre playing back a previously recorded show, and during the playback a recording started. When we came to end the recording, the box would not respond to the remote, or the front panel controls(the recording light was still on). Eventually after I knew the recording program had finished, I pulled the plug. Very suprised to see the program it was recording was still viewable, but had overrun massively (well over 2hrs for a 1 hr show), i'm guessing it was locked up so badly, the stop command failed to stop it.

The other problem, you can get it to stutter if you use ff/rew in a certain sequence when playing back shows. You have to stop it and resume playback to fix that.

I hope the forthcoming update fixes these issues.

Thanks, this is strange then, I purchased the box second hand, it had the old version on, did not look for any newer version when I set it up.
I then did a search, it still did not find any newer version, so I went on Samsung website, found a newer version 5.0.300 copied it to root on a usb stick, and it updated.

Not sure I understand all that. But that;s my ignorance. Many thanks for the reply. I will do some research and educate myself.

I had this problem over christmas (think i even mentioned it on here). It was very annoying because I had to wait (and guess) for the end of the recording before restarting the box so I could gain control of it.

I had a similar problem last night. I was watching a video from a USB drive on the STB then when a scheduled recording started the video stuttered, then stopped and the box would respond. I ended up restarting the box so it could record the scheduled program, then I watched the video off of my PS3 (a reliable device lol).

Personally I dont think this STB has enough power to handle multiple things at once. I dont see why not though because you could build a small computer for around £300 (samsungs original RRP).

I had another problem the other day also. When I reset the box (because of the missing library problem), I noticed all my recordings had Audio Description on. I had not set it, it had somehow become turned on (only me that goes into the settings on the box).

TBH I am getting disappointed with this box and Samsungs ability to update it.
I had the Humax HDR-fox-t2 before this, and it was faultless. I only sold it because Freeview signals in my area are hit & miss.

Does anyone know whether or not we can claim for a refund on the grounds of the box not being capable of doing what it claims to do?

Get all these problems too - seems better if it's left to go to sleep at night - but still happen.

I think when recording 2 HD and watching 1 HD, or Iplayer/media player - the box struggles. And if it hangs while you're doing something any recordings in progress get a bit corrupt.

Seems to have got worse over time... maybe the drive gets fragmented and can't cope rather than the CPU side? Quite often playing a program takes 10-20 seconds to start from the library too - same results for any recordings too.

Could the Samsung SMT-S7800 ever get the Smart Hub? With iPlayer and YouTube already available and ITVplayer coming (eventually) does this unit have the capability to expand it's internet offering? Not necessarily a full browser just more things like LoveFilm etc. Is it at the whim of Samsung doing a software update or is this not possible? I was about to buy it as a replacement for SKY (with SKY movies) thinking I could get LoveFilm instead as I know LF and several other film streaming services are available on Smart Hub

It can't be ruled out, but I don't know how well the box would handle it. They haven't even got the basic recording / playback features working right.

I must say I dropped sky and got this box with the anticipation of more Internet features being added but not heard anything yet.

I had same problem again last night. I was watching a hd recording from the library, it started recording another hd programme and it became very slow when trying to fast forward and then stopped responding. Then I couldn't do anything with it and had to turn power off at wall.

I've had the issue with lost library files 3 times now in 6 months. In the past I've always reset the box to fix it. Today I decided to just format the disk in the Menu/Settings options, To my surprise this retained all my schedules/Favs/Channels etc but now allows me to record and see all new library files. Obviously all my old recordings have gone But even so for me it's a much better fix than a total reset. Anyone else done this?

Whoops!!! After a few hours the library was lost again. May not be a permanent solution after all.

I have not tried a format for the problem but a Freesat scan did much the same. All recordings back for a while then they vanished again.

I also have had this issue at least three times and I hope Samsung have identified the cause and will issue a fix.

BTW, you should look at some of the reviews of the Frreview version of this box. They are really bad.

Only can record one program and item being recorded does not show up in library till recording is complete.

lol sounds like a typical Samsung STB.

I think nickdenker is right in saying that it sounds like a HDD issue. Regardless, Samsung should sort it out. The product is not doing what it advertises.

I cant watch 1 program whilst recording another

Granted most of the time I can, but problems like this shouldn't exist. It is the basic functionality of an STB.
I have a Bush Freesat recorder that I used as my main box until I got the Samsung, and this had problems with recordings. If i remember correct, it wouldn't successfully stop a recording meaning it over-ran (indefinately) and used up a tuner.

I was considering buying the Samsung but I checked Richersounds and its listed as "last few". I also checked Amazon and it is not sold directly by them now only through third party sellers.

Does anyone know if it is being discontinued already?

Alas no. The next generation of Freesat+ boxes may offer more services.

No more Pansonic Freesat+ boxes is also a surprise.

It shouldn’t really come as any surprise but Panasonic have today announced they have dropped the Freesat+ recorders from their new range of products due to launch in March.

Not surprised about this and wouldn't be surprised about them discontinuing it. I cant imagine they sell many. I dont think enough people are aware of freesat compared to freeview.

I would be surprised if Samsung attempt to create another STB (freesat or freeview) with the problems they have had.
