ztoppe, I see you have Panasonic equipment. Does it play nicely (or, at all ) with Vieralink on the TV?

Thanks again to all who have provided early feedback on the unit.

I see the Guide display shows eight channels versus seven on the HDR.

Yes you are right I have got a Panasonic GT20B TV and Both the SD and HD Pictures from the Samsung Freesat box is very good on this TV. ( they are better then my Sky+HD box which is also a Sumsung)

Am I not right in thinking that the Vieralink only works with other Panasonic equipment?

I think that VIERA Link is Panasonic's own implementation of CEC which would be similar to Anylink+ on a Samsung and BRAVIA Sync on a Sony etc. I've only ever tried it with Panasonic equipment but I think it can work between different manufacturers, if you're lucky .

Has anyone yet worked out which media formats run ok? I've not quite cracked it - it says only xvid are supported but I have some XVid that work, and some that don't - and also some non xvid that work...

Also anyone who's got one yet know how to get the volume control to work the TV volume as opposed to the boxes volume? I.e. like sky does. Otherwise you'll end up turning the TV to another source and blasting out huge volumes!

I'm also trying to find out from the samsungDforums whether it's possible to open up the webTV to development as per the TVs... Youtube being the only app is a downer when the Samsung TVs have LoveFilm and Woomi...

Cheers

Nick

As far as I'm aware, Vieralink and BRAVIA Sync are interchangeable, they jointly designed the CEC standard.

I would like to think that any other manufacturers would adhere to the same standard as well, but I've no knowledge of that.

Yes the live pause works the same as my Sky+HD box which I have had for 2 years and ending on the 7th April.

I also found the TV Guide on the Samsung Freesat is a lot quicker once you get use to it, from using the sky guide.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/ztoppe/...n/photostream/

You can also set the Guide Time line from
60 minutes (as seen in photo) to
120 minutes or
240 minutes.
I have now set my to 120minutes which is fine for me.

Another Sammy sold...Humax are you listening???

Not looking good for my one....

No sound over hdmi (perhaps no sound at all)

No lower power mode does not seem to work and it still eats 20 watts displaying time.

After power cycle clock shows --:-- so I guess it does not set the time.

Handshaking issues with my LG 3D TV. Have to switch inputs to get anything other than 1080p snow storm.

lots of little dots along picture bottom and up right side on several channels.

Hope this helps some people...
Thanks . It's a pity Samsung aren't a bit more on the ball with their web site. They had a perfectly good info page with demo on their main UK site up until a week ago and now you'd think that the product doesn't exist which, as far as Lasky's are concerned, might be the case .

I've just checked on my order which was due to come in yesterday and now they have no idea when they are going to see them. It seems as though Currys/Dixons may be the only short-term option at the moment. Pity really as Lasky's had price-matched Currys for me when it was at £249!

Nobody has actually confirmed that you can copy programmes to a USB device. In fact, quite the opposite on another forum.

I'd like to know if it can stream the content of it's hard drive via DLNA - now that would be clever, but I doubt it somehow.

If Samsung would just put the sodding manual on their website it would save a lot of bother!
It does play music from my Asset UpnP server and displays track name on unit display.

Pity I can't hear anything

Also when you press Guide no option to get rid of "Channel Genre" screen

You never know.
It is plugged into the same cables my Humax HDR uses.

I will try the one provided direct to TV to see if that helps rather than via my Sony amp.

EDIT & Correction.

Low power mode does work but cuts in 15 minutes after you put it in standby.

Clock display goes off at this time and power consumption is then 0.7 watts.

I get sound over my HDMI, but I am not using the one that came in the box but using my own 1.4HDMI leads.
You should be able to get sound with HDMI as the Samsung does support 1.3HMDI. Have you try another HDMI lead.?
Has anyone else had this problem?

It use under 1W power consumption in passive standby. When you press the STANDBY button whilst the box is in Active Mode, the box will switchto Active Standby Mode, After a period of 5 minutes, the box will switch to Low Power Standby Mode.

Just pull the plug on my to test the cycle clock and waited a few minutes then plug it back in. After waiting a few minutes for the box to finish booting up it did reset the time to the right time on my box. So I am not too sure why it did not do so on your box Maybe some one else might be able to help?

If you go to menu/settings/Picture/Screen resolution, you can pick "Auto, Use TVs feature, 576p, 720p, 1080i or 1080p 50Hz"

I Can't help you about the dots as I don't know what is causing the dots.

Hope some of this will be of help to you.

Using the provided HDMI lead direct to TV at first I also got no sound.

But when I selected BBC 1HD I got sound and now I also get sound on none dolby digital channels.

Also now set this HDMI input to "Just Scan" mode and no dodgy line of dots along bottom or right side.

I will try in a bit again via my amp with this lead.

Marked several items to record but when I try and pick "Carry On Spying" on 300 or 301 it says "Another instance of this recording is already scheduled - see library" but it is not.

Also library when looking at library / schedule it stops live tv which seems a bit odd.

Also to check schedule of future series link recording you have to open their series name folders.

No BBC News TV was on at the time I wanted to see what would happen if there was a power cut or the power went off at the mains. It came back on to Standby Mode and the clock came back on at the right time too.

Hooked up via my amp and the different HDMI lead fixed the dots at picture bottom but still no sound.

I was then curious to see if I changed the HDMI setting on my amp to let sound through to TV rather than just amp.

With that changed I then got sound from my amp speakers and the TV.

Thus I have turned the TV volume down to zero.

This has not been an issue with any of my other HDMI devices, at least eight so I guess it is an issue with how the HDMI audio works on the samsung.

Otherwise all looks good including 4:3 pillarbox for 4:3 material

Thanks for that Automan. It may sound trival to some but I find this a real inconvenience. Hopefully someone may find an option hidden away somewhere to disable it.

Find only also seems to work for a single selected day rather than a complete week.

With the Humax I would often check for movies on in next seven days, with the samsung only a day at a time and it is a lot slower even at listing one day of movies.

Also getting more
Another instance of this recording is already scheduled - see library
when I try and book a recording on some items e.g. Sea Wife chn4 next week afternoon.

EDIT:
Just set a series link for Diagnosis murder on BBC2 England next monday.

Unit then picks to record it from BBC 2 Eng then NI, England, NI and then Wales!

I (mis-)read early on that it has "diseqc" switching but no-one has confirmed this as yet. ztoppes photos show different satellites but it could be in the system settings menu where you have to set up the diseqc number for each satellite.
Similarly that would identify whether it has motor control. Could someone have a look for these please?
They might be labelled as DiSEqC 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, USALS, A/B/C/D, 1/2/3/4, A/a, A/b, B/a, B/b

And if you find it please also look if lnb input 1 can be set up for a different mix of satellites from lnb input 2?

Website

The official website is back but using the link to the subpages only as below. The main page seems not to be there but the subpages are and it also means that navigating through the drop downs to set top boxes ends up in a not found

Cant see any such options. It certainly knows about different satellites - would it be automatic? Coming from SKY this is new terratory - and still got 4 weeks on Sky sub so not done any serious playing yet.
