Had mine for 2 months and generally happy with it, But lost the library for the first time last night.

Got mine from Richer Sounds with 5 year cover so no problem returning it if I wish.

I think I will hang on until the software update in May and see if that resolves the various problems (disappearing library, youtube login, iplayer lipsynch, watching from USB stick issues, lack of padding for recordings). Actually, maybe I'll wait until some G2 boxes appear and swap for one of them.

I wasn't that happy with the Humax either which kept locking and eventually failed.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was actually a Freesat+ HDR without issues? Is there?

Mine had the deleted recordings last night. Switched it off at the mains and back on and alas it is no more... Just shows --:-- on the front and nothing on the TV, and then power cycles attempting a reboot and same again...

Off to currys! Shame there is no real alternative now with Humax being end of life....

Odd that quite a few people seem to have lost their library last night.

Could be a coincidence, I suppose?

I suppose it depends where you purchased your box from, I got mine from Amazon in September 2011 and it was replaced within the first 6 weeks by them. Other problems soon kept popping up and having been told on numerous occasions to do a "Reset" and as I was unable to get through to Tech Support Amazon decided to give me a full refund and the unit was collected at no cost to me....

Again I cannot fault Amazon's customer support and professionalism, I reckon Samsung could learn a few things from them.

Just got a new one from Currys - has version 5.0.301 on it - can't see any difference apart from the back button on iPlayer now seems to work. Lip sync issue still there I think.

It could be duff or perhaps your dish is a little out of alignment.

Can you try it at a friends?

On first setup it looks at eurobird to get the guide and if the dish is not quite right it may not get the signal.

Another thought, will it let you pick non Freesat mode and then search for a signal on Astra 2

Automan.

Thanks for the sugestions. I will try at afriends house. I dont think i will be able to change any of the settings as i cant even access a menu on screen. The display on the front of the box displays channels such as BBC and Channel 4 and the remote will toggle between these channels so i think that the box is recieving a signal, it just seems to be having trouble relaying that to the TV. I may try contacting Samsung as i have a suspision it may be something to do with the Anynet+ system.

Thanks again,
Dan.

Have you tried it with a Scart cable rather than hdmi?

Also is your TV set to the HDMI input? Your TV may not auto select it as it did with your Sky box?

Automan.

At samsungs website it says
Smart Electronic Programme guide

With the smart Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) you can view channel programme listings, series link your favourite shows, watch recorded content, view disk space availability and, to make things even easier, you can select programme listings in genre categories.
You cannot see / check disk space from the EPG.

You can't watch recordings either.

i had the inbetweeners on series link it recorded 4 episodes then the timer disappeared from the box meaning no new recordings! This has happened before with a series on BBC1. Is this common? Getting fed up with freesat and this damn box! Also noticed when the recordings have gone (again!) the box resets itself and the recordings return!

I find it strange that Samsung aren't part of the list as they have a Freesat+HD box with a status of "coming soon" for ITV Player.

edit never-mind doesn't seem it is a good choice, when was the last firmware update?

edit again: Aargh dont know what to do people have said the Foxsat HD is very slow, and this one is fine on the HUKD site. Don't know what to do.

This box is quicker and more responsive than the Humax, but ever month or so recordings seem to disappear from the schedule and library. A quick reboot solves this problem and you realise nothing has been deleted and no recordings missed. Doesn't seem too big a problem, but it does get annoying after a while. The worst thing about this box is the lack of support coming from Samsung, they may be releasing a fix for this problem in May, but it hasn't been 100% confirmed. Oh and another thing, this box is not G2 compliant, Samsung just wanted people to believe this when they originally released the box. If you can hang on at all it may be worth it to see if Samsung fix this problem and also to look at the new G2 boxes to see how they perform.

I've also recently discovered that the box is not even Anynet+ compliant, just standard Anynet. This is the reason Samsung has given me for why The box isn't switching on automatically when it is selected from my Samsung TV's source select menu and not switching off with the TV like my Samsung Bluray player does.

My box does not switch on with the TV using AnyNet+ but does switch off with the TV. Not sure how it works on all Samsung TVs but I have to set up the TV to auto turn off connected boxes.

On my second box and this one has been excellent for a few months but over the last few days it suddenly, in the middle of watching TV or radio progs. goes into standby. Sometimes it returns to the prog. being watched but usually I need to press the standby button to get the station back. It does not re-boot, it just comes back as if nothing has happened - weird! It also happens without warning during play-back of recordings and then I need to go back round the Lib. selection - play - back process. Very tedious, any body got any ideas please?

"Hi frasersoft,
What did you say to amazon to get a refund? How long had you had the box? I am thinking of returning mine (different store though).
Cheers
Ash"

Getting a refund totally depends on the company you purchased it from and their T&C's. As my original reply to your question stated I purchased mine from Amazon and because of the trouble I had with the Samsung they gave me a refund. Pick up the phone and ask your seller what they can do for you, it's no good getting on the phone and saying it's a pile of c**p you won't get anywhere, I spent my working life in the retail Hi Fi/ TV trade as an engineer and you get nowhere by whinging at the sales staff.

I've had this box for 6 months without any problems.
Now on start up it briefly displays the channel and "HDD is not ready!" and then reboots itself. It does this continuously.

I've tried a full power off.

Am I right in thinking that the HDD is dead and that it has to go back?

I had this happen 2 weeks ago - except never got as far as showing anything on the TV - just "welcome.. enjoy" message on the front, then --:-- and then reboot. Left it off for ages, and on for ages and no difference...

Just took it back to currys and insisted on a replacement even though 10 months old as I know they'd send it away for months and we'd probably lost all the recordings anyway.

New box has all the same issues as the orginal which is reassuring that it's all software related...

Anyone setup the remote to operate another TV.

I tried following the instructions on how to get it to work, hold TV button for 5 seconds etc then it should flash led then go through the P + and see when it switches off...

Can't even get it to flash never mind any further...

I'm trying to get it to operate a new Sony flat screen as the TV is excellent but the remote is not the easiest thing to get to grips with, very angular compared to the sammy remote...

Any ideas folks....

Cheers

Phil

Sounds like you have one of the "duff" remotes that many of us suffered from - replacement from Samsung cured mine.

Try a search of this forum, it was a common problem a while back.

Any news on the firmware update?

I'm sick and tired of missing the last 5 minutes of 10'clock show every week. I don't care that Samsung blame the broadcaster, as I consumer, I just want recordings to work.
