I'm sick and tired of missing the last 5 minutes of 10'clock show every week. I don't care that Samsung blame the broadcaster, as I consumer, I just want recordings to work.

Samsung don't consider this a fault, despite so many people compalining about it. so don't expect it to be 'fixed'. That said I'm sure it is easily fixable as I belive you can manually amend recording to over-run in Humax.

If that's the Channel 4 show, they're correct if they've said that C4 don't send any Accurate Record signals and programs often overrun their EPG slots - happens on all Freesat equipment sadly. C4 said to me last year they were looking to support Freesat Accurate Record early this year, though no sign yet. For what it's worth, on my Humax I manually extend the recording entry on the C4 channels.

Had the library bug yesterday, where plenty of recording were missing in the library. Went intoa folder with lots of recording, and the box rebooted, from that point on, it always rebooted when it went into the library.
Tried a power cycle, no change, rebooted when I went into the library. The solution, Restore Defaults in the Setup menu. It deletes all your channels and does a factory reset. The box rebooted, I stuck my postcode in and let it find channels, and went into the planner, all the recording were back where they should, and no reboots. Not sure if it deleted all my upcoming recordings, I forgot to check. Hope this tips helps someone out. |

Dear Mr X, Thank you for contacting Channel 4 Viewer Enquiries. Unfortunately, Channel 4 does not send out 'triggers' for recording on Freesat, only the BBC can do that at the moment. Everything we do is 'chronological', so the recording starts at the time stated on the EPG. We hope that this is something we are able to do in the future; however, in the meantime I would suggest that you set recorder manually. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Thank you again for taking the time to contact us here at Channel 4 and for your interest in our programming. Regards, AY Channel 4 Viewer Enquiries |

ITV non +1 channels also send the data on Freesat Automan. Quote:

Are you saying that Ch4 are bullshitting us? It did sound like it, as the ONLY channel I have ever missed recording start/ends is CH4, everything else just works.

Only that their claim the BBC are the only ones who transmit program start data on Freesat is incorrect and that ITV also do it but not on +1 channels so don't record from them.

Anyone experienced this bug? Screensaver clock appearing during recordings. Sound continues underneath. I have turned off the screensaver for now which seems to have sorted it so far.
Roll on the May firware update. |

Roll on the May firware update. This is the normal trigger for this bug. Automan. |

That's strange. I am aware of the problem where, consistently, if a recording is played after being tuned to a radio channel, the screen saver breaks in every few minutes. However I've never had the same experience playing a recording after being tuned to a television channel.

Android DLNA
Hi,
First post here. Thanks for the informative thread so far. Does anyone know of an android DNLA client that ACTUALLY communicates with this badboy? You'd think that Samsung's very own Allshare app for use on its flagship mobile device would connect to its flagship PVR but neigh!! Thanks a lot, P |

I should add that "Mediaconnect" on the Ipad detects this device, but this app is not on android.

I've used it to communicate using DLNA with Windows Media Centre and with a Synology NAS drive, but nothing mobile I'm afraid.

Just re-reading your original question, i'm confused. The Samsing SMT-S7800S only has a DLNA CLIENT inside, where it can pull content from a DLNA SERVER like Twonkymedia. There is no Server in there.. Are you trying to view content on your phone on your TV via the Samsung? if so, then you need a DLNA SERVER on your phone, not a CLIENT. Try this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...v.twonkyremote Also make sure your mobile and Samsung box are on the SAME local network. It won't work if your phone is on 3G (for example) |

Just thought I'd post Samsung's response to my message below. I'd sent it as the Sky+HD box I previously used had this functionality: Quote:
When viewing a programme via the library that's currently recording, when exiting the viewing, if the programme is still recording and its selected again in the library it plays from the start and not the last position viewed. If the programme has completed recording and selected at a later time in the library there is a resume option. Response:I suggest that it would be great if a resume option was available for selecting a programme that's still recording at a later point after viewing previously in the library.. Quote:
The resume playback will not work until the recording has completed and up to 10 minutes after that as all the Data Blocks have not been built in the file to allow indexing. This is not a fault with your unit. To be able to index a file the file requires a header and a footer which will contain a checksum which will be used to tell the freesat box where the start and finish of the file are. Without this information the software cannot know where the last watched point in the file is.

I should have written server not client, ta.
Using Twonky mobile, Allshare and other android apps I can see my marantz m-cr603 receiver as a device to send to and stream music to that, however none of these servers can detect the samsung dlna client, and I can never see anything under the location 'network' under 'media' on the s7800. The s7800 and marantz are both plugged via cat5 into my wireless 'super hub' which has UPnP enabled, set to advertise period 30 minutes and advertise time to live 5 hops. I've played around with different hops. Maybe I need an extra card for the samsung? Does it come with dlna out the box?! Like I said though, ipad's Mediaconnect app did allow my friends Ipad's content to show up in the Samsung's network location... Thanks. |

Without this information the software cannot know where the last watched point in the file is. Response: As a reminder, here is my list of bugs (not updated since last year). List Created 12/04/2011 Last updated 19/07/2011 Since the latest software update the box is a worthwhile purchase with only the following minor bugs and missing basic features…. 08/07/2011 New Software 5.0.300 Release √ Resolved the issue of missing some timers of individual recordings after the STB has been low-power standby. √ Resolved the issue with small duplicate recordings. √ Resolved the issue of cutting short recordings. √ Resolved the issue of not being able to stop recording a programme of a series recording in some cases. √ Improved the compatibility with HDMI audio AMP. Bugs List – New Ones And Confirmed Still Present With Software 5.0.300 1. If you playback a recording still being made and stop playback the resume information is not saved but the unwatched/new status is cleared. 2. Some series link program names are incremented by a number other are not. It seems to be almost random. e.g. Mr Bean Mr Bean Ironside Ironside (2) Ironside Ironside Ironside (3) 3. Clock display and screen saver are sometimes 15 seconds slow. 4. Screen saver will cut in every five minutes during a recording playback if you load the library from a radio channel. 5. When you stop playing a recording you are not always returned to that item in the library 6. When you stop playing a series link recording while another one has recorded when you return to library view the new recording is not displayed till you exit the sub folder and enter it again. 7. Media player only shows the first 100 matching tracks or artists when browsing. 8. No USB WiFi Dongle Support. 9. Some remote controls do not work in TV Mode. Pressing and holding TV mode button for 5 seconds should start it to flash. If it does not, you need to talk to Samsung about a replacement. Product Shortfalls / Enchantment Requests 1. If a recording is not made for what ever reason no notification is saved to advise you the recording was missed or failed. 2. No option to create manual timers or adjust program pre and post recording time. 3. No warning message that the unit will change channel to make a second recording. 3. In Library view, a new recording indicator for series link recordings without having to open each folder would be a useful timesaver. 4. In Library view, free/used disc space indicator would be useful. Having to go to Menu, Settings, Library / Media, HDD capacity is very long winded (unit does display an onscreen warning at start-up when free disk space is below 15%). 5. In Library view of scheduled recordings no program detail is available over than channel, name, date and time. 6. During recording playback no options are available such as EPG, recording list etc. All other STB have this. 7. Guide search only permits you to search a day at time and is also quite slow. 8. No option to copy recordings onto external media via USB or FTP. 9. No edit option for non-freesat channel list. 10. WebTV option only offers YouTube 11. No access to shares on computers or NAS boxes (samba) 12. YouTube login password is not saved Unit Software & Firmware Information Initial Release Firmware Version : 0.39/1.43 Software Version : 001.000.0256 Second Release Firmware Version : 0.39/1.43 Software Version : 003.000.0273 Third Release 23/06/11 Firmware Version : 0.39/1.43 Software Version : 004.000.0296 Software Update News 08/07/11 Firmware Version : 0.39/1.43 Software Version : 005.000.0300 Issues That Seem To Have Been Fixed By Firmware Update (004.000.0296). If two episodes of the same series follow each other and are recorded by a series link e.g. Batman, Family Guy, The Kennedy’s the unit will not stop recording one or both of them till hours later (It would appear they are working on this issue making changes to the program guide data). Issues That Seem To Have Been Fixed By Firmware Update (003.000.0273). Program Guide data sometimes fails to populate properly leaving blank days, some channels only or no data. YouTube operation can make box reboot. Audio glitches playing back HD recordings every so often. Not possible to record more than one movie from any of the chn4 family of channels (E4, More4, Film4, etc). An attempt to record another will tell you it is already scheduled to be recorded. No program guide data for Channel 4 HD (factory reset may be required) At the end of playback of a recording it offers to delete it. It would seem if another recording starts while you are watching a recording it offers to delete the wrong item/folder (first item in the library list). Unit records series links and single recordings from random BBC regions. E.g. set a series link on a BBC 1 SE program and it may record it on BBC 1 NI. The same occurs with BBC2 regions. When a BBC HD program is selected and highlighted to be recorded sometimes it will record BBC NI in SD. Similar problem when ITV1 HD is selected. No protection for series link recordings. If two series link recordings are set for 21:00 it will let you select a third for the same time with no warning of a clash. One of the two series link recordings then does not take place. Parental control changes to hide stations are not saved. Edit of channel list are not saved. Fixed - In guide view the symbol that a program has a Series Link appears to be random. Program information details do not always scroll in Guide display. Recording playback time bar starts at 1 hour rather than 0 when you press the Info key. It is correct if you press pause. When you try and set a recording that causes a clash with existing planned recordings it only offers to delete all clashes and not pick just one. Issues That Seem To Have Been Fixed By Firmware Update (004.000.0296). Non series link planned recordings sometimes vanish from Library / Timers. Sometimes after the unit stops recording it will make 1 second recordings from your current channel. On channels that support accurate start signals, if the program runs late the unit seems to stop recording at the scheduled time rather than after it actually finishes. Some recordings are saved with no program information. If connected to your TV using HDMI via an A/V amp you may find you get no sound unless on the amplifier you set it to send HDMI audio to TV. If you load the Media application from a channel with Dolby Digital sound (HD Channels) you will not hear any of your music. (work-around – exit media player, select a non HD channel and try again). Automan. |

Thinking about that Samsung reply relating to resume on a recording being made.
Surely that is BS as I would imagine it would store your current playback position in another file along with viewed / not viewed status. So surely remembering the resume position should be no issue? Automan. |

Personally I found the most serious bug to be lip sync and other errors associated with playing XVID (AVI) files and the BBC iPlayer. Consequently I abandoned the SMT-S7800 for these functions.
The most annoying remaining bug for me which affects its PVR operation is Automan's "4. Screen saver will cut in every five minutes during a recording playback if you load the library from a radio channel." |
