I got another replay from Samsung which has not impressed me

Sounds like total BS to me.

So instead of new firmware just turn it off for 30 minutes

Automan.
And of course the hassle of losing all your future timer recordings each time.

That reply is a total cop out, and it's sounds like they are now stalling over this non release. Perhaps it's never going to happen.

I'll let you know BBC's response once they reply.

Message to Samsung:
Hi,

When using the BBC red button service in freesat mode via a BBC channel and selecting sport multiscreen after a short period of PLEASE WAIT...displayed on screen the sport multi-screen page loads.

However when accessing the BBC red button service in non-freesat mode via a BBC channel, when selecting sport multiscreen, the PLEASE WAIT...icon displays permanently and the page doesn't load. If possible I suggest that this issue is resolved, or can this only be resolved by BBC?

Thank you

Regards
Response from Samsung
Thank you for contacting Samsung.

Unfortunately, the BBC red button service is a service provided by the BBC and is only received and displayed by your Samsung TV. Any problems with the red button service will have to fixed with them.

Sorry I cannot be of further help to you today.

If you require any further assistance, please contact Samsung again and we will be more than happy to help.

Kind regards,
I have since discovered that this is due to a bug with the box.

If I switch to a BBC channel via the channel number I've selected for the favourites list in non-freesat mode and select "sport multiscreen" it doesn't load. If I switch to a BBC channel via the all channels list or the respective number "sport multiscreen" loads fine.

I've notified Samsung,

The other problem I have seen a few times is when changing channels quickly using the remotes up/down buttons it shows the latest wrong channel... Anyone else seen this annoying quirk?

I bought one of these only yesterday after struggling with a Thomson TopUP TV freeview box for a couple of years and then a Sagem Freesat box for the last 2 years neither of which quite got there despite gradual software improvements over that time.

1st question is - is this the best / most active forum for this box or do you know of any others I should join?

2nd question is around user folders. I have got used to setting up my own folders (named as Comedy, Drama, Sport etc) and then moving my recordings into the appropriate folder. I couldn't get this work as empty folders, I think I could when I had a recording to move into a folder but then it dispappeared after the file was watched and I then deleted the file? is this your experience?

Also recordings all disappear from the library all the time! Exit and enter the library again and they come back - is this a known bug?

Hoping someone can help as have tried to install freesat for first time, in france. Had all the channels a few months ago but can't get them back. Trying to establish if I have a problem with box (S7800), dish or just satellite direction. Apologies if there is another forum for this, please redirect me.

I get good signal and quality readings, the full freesat EPG, but can only watch channel S4C digicol. In non-freesat mode, I can manually select the Eurobird Astra 2 sat and then see much larger EPG, including loads of sky channels. But the only channels I can actually watch are BBC sport and some religious / middle east ones (also BBC radio works).

Have been up on the roof a few times but everytime we get a signal, it only picks up the above channels. The channel search says it's found 100+ channels, but I can't watch them. Any help much appreciated as the next step will have to be calling out a very expensive french engineer.

I suggest the LN skew is incorrect - I am in 32800 80 Cm dish no problems. Try http://www.dishpointer.com/ for skew for your position - be prepared to reverse skew as directions may be given from behind the dish.

Also the dish may be more aligned to 25.5 than 28.2 you must be midway for an ideal solution.

Has anyone else with the Samsung box had issues with the remote control? My control is no longer operating the box. The batteries have been replaced and it operates the TV (at least using the standby and source buttons).

I also have two other remote control units for this box (tried to get a replacement as the original control was not programmable as is described in the manual, the replacements didn't work either). These do not work either.

The only minor saving grace is that I have a Samsung TV and I can get limited control of the box through AnyNet+. This at least means I can change the channel, but not use the guide without pressing the menu button on the box itself.

Ok my first impressions of it is very very good I like the feel of the remote and it works from any part of the room I am in and from any angle which is good. Plus some of the keys glow in the dark. I have try the remote from 22 feet away and it works fine.

It is very easy to set up and the menu system is fast. I also got Channel 4 HD on the Non-freesat part and did a test recording of what was on at the time and it played back OK.

The iPlayer works well and I had NOT even set up the network yet. The Samsung box find and set the internet network up by itself without me having to do anything apart from pluging the network cable in the back of the box.

YouTube work well and quick also, I had a quick try out and was happy with it.

Now the thing is am I happy I got this? Well at the moment that will have to be a big YES as what I have seen so far is very good.

But remember I have only had this for a few hours so far.
So that is my first impressions.

What a shambles if you try and sign in to your (own) youtube account you will get net work error, Samsung's help line are the most useless set of idiots that have ever lived . I was told try this try that and nothing!. I can get Iplayer,my pic's,my music and Samsung's youtube but i cannot start my own account. So adding insult to injury they said I must go to youtube its their App' problem?. I want a working machine its sat here for two months and i cannot sign in, i can go upstairs on the main PC sign in and it starts immediately. I cannot send it back apparently as it does everything but sign in, and to quote Samsung it's youtube at fault, any thoughts you guys.

My tweet was regarding that the May 4th update was stated to arrive in the response to the missing EPG information FAQ. They responded via twit longer.

The update was originally scheduled for this date, however a fix has not yet been found. As soon as we release this update, it will be available first, via our support site. Apologies for the delay.

Shambles is the only word.

I got sent a brands new Samsung Wifi camera to review via Amazon. It doesn't work with the SMT-S7800's DLNA client.

You don't get this interoperability bullshit from Sony.

Given the proximity of the Olympics and the BBC broadcasting many streams via the red button - what’s the latest on how to record any of these streams from Freesat with the Samsung

Is it only the red button sports feed you are watching that can be recorded on 3001
What of sports streams >1
No mechanism to plan recordings in future time
Streams not listed in the EPG

Freeview has separate channel entries 301 and 302 in the EPG but no corresponding entries in the Freesat EPG.

I purchased one of these boxes yesterday from curry's - it says it was manufactured 2011.12 and has firmware 0.39/1.43 and software 005.000.0301

the box is listed as being itv-player ready on samsung's website and the last firmware on their site is 8th Jul 2011 which my box won't accept (tried 2 different usb sticks) they both show in library but the software upgrade won't accept them.

When I choose channel 903 (ITV Player) it advises me that it is not supported for my device and to go to www.itv.com/itvplayer/freesat - when you go and check here it says 'coming soon'

the unit had a sticker on it that i took off that said, iplayer, youtube and itv player* (*coming soon)

so should i be able to play itv player on this unit

Your software is newer than that on the Samsung website and thus it won't install.

The ITV Player does not work on this machine

Have you kept the sticker? I unfortunately disposed of mind, naively trusting that a statement by Samsung would be honoured. Another firmware release has been rumoured, but nothing has materialised so far.

Regarding http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1671629

I've manually scanned for and added Challenge TV and +1 successfully, however when entering the details for PICK TV and +1 and then selecting save it's not added to the channel list.

Is anyone else having this issue?

Thank you

no the sticker was the metallic type and awkward to get off

but if look here you can see the sticker clearly

if you look on the samsung website at the tech specs and features. They advertise the product supports itv-player so should be no reason why it won't work.

I'm also going to email both freesat and itv regarding this and see what they say

anyone looked at the recent argos catalogue

on page 628 item 4

Samsung Smart SMT-S7800
OnDemand Channels: BBC iPlayer, Love Film, YouTube and many more

So where is the access to Love Film as the only app shown is YouTube

I've also fired of an email to samsung about the false advertising of the product in relation to itv-player

just seen this on the FAQs for freesat - not sure when it was posted
ITV Player (Channel 903) is temporarily unavailable on freesat and all other TV platforms due to technical difficulties at ITV, but we hope it will be back up again very soon. We're sorry for any disappointment caused.

Thank you for your response.

My Samsung box was in non-freesat mode and manual scan was selected and then "save" once the scan had completed. Challenge and Challenge +1 were added to my all channels list (along with two other non fta channels which I deleted) but PICK TV and PICK TV+1 weren't when I manually scanned again with their frequency etc.

I've contacted Samsung Support. I have all other free to air channels already in non-freesat mode, so I decided to do an auto-scan thinking PICK TV would be picked up that way, but it wasn't. 50 other channels were including radio but not PICK TV. I'll see what Samsung say.

ok, got a reply from samsung

Unfortunately ITV player is not available on any Samsung products at present. We are still awaiting delivery of the app from ITV themselves as there was an issue with compatibility. As it is the app provider's responsiblity to ensure this compatiblilty we at Samsung have been unable to provide it on our units. It was originally thought that it would be ready just after distribution however this has not been the case. I do apologise for any inconvenience that this issue has caused and I hope that it can be resolved in the near future. In the meantime I thank you for your patience.
so this means any current provider advertising that a samsung product they are selling is compatible with itv-player is currently falsely advertising the product along with samsung.

I've just bought the SMT S7800 and see that I should be able to play avi files from my network. The only problem is that I am a Linux user (Ubuntu) so do not use the Microsoft media player. Has anyone had any experience linking the S7800 up to Linux?

Right, I believe it's an issue with this box..

So for example if channel a and b are on the same frequency and I manually scanned for them, I delete channel b which is encrypted. But then channel c has become free to air. But when I perform another manual scan, it is detected but it doesn't save because I have previously deleted another channel on the same frequency. If I don't delete channel b and perform another manual scan, channel c is added to my all channels list.

My message to Samsung Support:

I can now confirm that regarding my messages below the problem isn't with freesat. I can confirm that it i a bug with this samsung box. I know this because of the following. I reset the box to factory defaults and Idid a manual scan. A bunch of encrypted and free to air channels were added to my all channels list. I deleted all the encrypted channels, and I unintentionally deleted one of the free to air channels as well.

So I did a manual scan again and I pressed save and no channels including the deleted free to air were
added to the list.

I repeated this using different frequencies with the same results. It turns out that if channels that have the same frequency are deleted from the all channels list, and then a manual scan with the same frequency is performed at a later time, even though save is selected at the end, no
channels will be added to the list.

I tested this again and repeated the bug using the latest software. Ihope this makes sense and the bug is resolved.
