I was under the impression that although the Humax is the first G2 box there will be other manufacturers producing other G2 boxes in due course. Manhattan were mentioned as well as a Phillips machine which may well actually be a rebadged Sagecom.

No the SMT-S7800 is not G2. Samsung did originally say that it would be with an update but that just isn't possible.

Nope, the Phillips box maybe Badged as Pace, as Pace and Phillips are one company now and the Sagem box will be Badged Sagecom as it is their new name

The Following companies are launching the Freesat G2 boxes

Humax
Pace/Phillips
Sagecom
Manhattan

Out of all them manufactures listed there would be only one I would get and trust and that's got to be the humax

SO far, so good. If they fixed the bugs, this will easilly make it the best freesat PVR on the market right now. (at least until the new ones come out).

It's sad it's taken so long to get things sorted out fully. They made big strides early on, then all went quiet,.

I wouldn't. I was VERY unimpressed with the Foxsat when I compared it next to the Samsung, it was slow and laggy, looked horrible, and was even buggier than the Samsung, it took AGES to load the EPG. That was enough to give it a wide bearth.

So apart from YouTube, how does the Samsung SMT - S7800 compare to the Echostar HDS-600RS?

I've also found the Samsung to be much more responsive and up to date than the Foxsat-HDR which seemed to be more of an enthusiasts' box.

just upgraded mine i do not remember ther being a use tv feature in the picture setings before( i may be mistaken). I also complained to samsung and got this response about the usual issues.
The ITV Player application is currently available to customers who own a
7000 or 8000 series Samsung Smart TV released in 2011 or 2012 (D-series
or E-series, respectively).
Users of these TVs will need to update their firmware in order to
receive the app - please confirm your TV's full model code in your next
email should you require further information or assistance in doing
this.
Once the TV is updated the ITV Player application will be available to
customers in the Samsung App Store.
The ITV Player application will soon be available to 5000 and 6000
series Samsung Smart TVs but is not currently available - exact release
date TBA.
We currently have no further news nor a timescale on a release date for
the app on set top boxes, BluRay players or home theatre systems.
I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
In regards to the blank library issue, we hope to have a software update
available for this product in the near future to rectify this issue once
and for all. If your PVR keeps experiencing the issue despite the reset
and is not always restoring your recorded items, we will refer the box
for repair (the hard drive will be reformatted so you will lose any
remaining recordings).
Please confirm if you would like us to proceed with this.
If you have any additional queries or require further assistance, please
contact Samsung again and we will be happy to help.

I think he means he's updated the old firmware via USB.

Go via this link to Samsung website and select 'Firmware' tab

No sign that have fixed the numbering of names of program's recorded by a series link e.g. Simpsons, Simpsons (1) etc.

Seems it now just names them all the same.

Too complex a problem for them to fix I guess?

just updated to the new firmware V6.0.376

The updates in version V6.0.376 include:

- Resolved the issue with the number of media files listed.

Does this now mean Samsung have finally fixed the missing library bug?

Yes since the update I have not had any problems ( fingers crossed) where as before I would lose my listings in my library at least once a week

I have two Humax Foxsat boxes running the latest stock firmware and both do seem to be a lot slower than they used to be when using the TV guide.

Get's right on my man boobs tbh, i have never used the samsung so can't compare them side by side though.

I wouldn't buy the samsung as i would rather save my money for a G2 box, even if the G2 boxes were not on there way i would never buy a samsung box after the length of time it took them to sort out the issues with this one!

Press the schedule button followed by the red button instead of the guide button to display the epg.

the key question for me, is does it fix the box lockup when recording 2 HD programs, playing back a previous recording and trying to use ff/rev skip.

this used to always look the box.what it would continue to record and play you couldn't do anything with it except pull the plug once you knew the recordings were complete.

I contacted Samsung about the pillar boxes that now appear on 4:3 broadcasts.

I don't believe this should be the case as the new picture size conversion setting is set to "Auto" and not "4:3 Pillar Box". I understand that the pillar box is technically the correct format for 4:3 broadcasts as Channel 4 HD does with The Simpsons but the option to remove it (seemingly "auto" to 'stretch' the picture) doesn't work.

Their response indicates another update is on the way which is brilliant and it will hopefully resolve this issue.

There is indeed another update due to be released soon and with all this information gathered we will forward it onto the relevant sources and hopefuly it will resolve any issues you have.
I have numerous "international" channels that broadcast in 4:3 mode added in non-freesat mode that are only available on Sky and my family isn't a fan of the pillar box display. Hopefully "soon" won't be too long

Updated to the latest firmware 2 weeks ago and up until today everything was working fine. However today when attempting to watch any prerecorded programme I got the message "Specified file not available". I also noticed that although all the programmes were visible in the library my available space had increased from 57 to 97%.
I decided to try a factory restore in the hope that this might resolve the problem. However although memory is still showing 97% all the programmes have disappeared from the library.

Emailed samsung asking if the latest firmware update was resolve the missing libary bug and this was the response i got :

Thank you for contacting Samsung and I have pleasure in providing the following assistance.

I am sorry to hear you have experienced this problem with your Freesat PVR set-top box and can understand the inconvenience caused.

The library appearing to be empty of recorded programmes can be resolved with a reset of the unit.

If the issue persists after performing the reset, or if the reset does not restore all missing items, the box must be referred for service. Therefore we request that you please confirm following:

- The unit’s serial number
- Date and place of purchase
- Your full address details and a contact phone number.

Freesat boxes are referred to a company called Repair Tech who send a courier to collect the device. Please bear in mind that the repair involves a reformat of the hard drive which will wipe any programmes from the library but permanently resolves the library issue.

I just got one of these for the mother in-law. I worked fine for the first day, but after a couple of software updates it’s now lockup up. It comes on ok, but then it’s stuck on channel 5 & the remote, that worked to turn it on can’t get her into the menu to try a set. She tried off & on by the switch on the back but it's still the same. I’ve looked back though this thread, but couldn’t see any similar problems.
I assume as the menu can’t be accessed it can’t be told to boot from a USB either? **
Can anyone help? **
