Have to say since the update the box has been as it should. It has not crashed, lost the recordings or timers once, seems all major issues have been fixed. I used to get problems when I was switching between non freesat and freesat but no more. I have noticed that you seem to get a lot more of the tv guide in non freesat, it just a shame it does not record automatic in non freesat mode, I would think this because it does not get the start finish times from freesat, if they could change it in an update so it goes off scheduled times in non freesat, it would be perfect for me as there too many gems in non freesat mode for me to miss. I would think it would be too much programming for Samsung to allow non freesat channels in the favourites in normal mode like other boxes. I am generally happy that I am not loosing my recordings, timers aand having to turn the box off all the time, even power save mode works with no problems so far.

Paza02 - is there a guide to adding non-freesat channels for the Samsung anywhere? I went into that mode but had no idea what satellite to choose or what co-ordinates to enter. I was hoping to add Sky News, Dave, Quest etc. Thanks.

Dave is encrypted so you can't view it.

Reading the installation guide Samsung show the use of a splitter for a single LNB feed. Has anyone any experience of using this and is it necessary to use a signal booster?

Unless the firmware can be set to recognise the limitations of the splitter output with no lnb control I can't see how that can work. Interesting to find out though. Whether you need amplification depends on how good your signal is in the first place. The splitter will have a loss of around 4dB.

Not for me. The same old same old crashes/lockups are still there.

For example. Try recording a couple of HD channels, and then playback a previously recorded HD recording. Try skipping forward and back (1min chapter skip). This will (for me) lock the box. The OSD will stick on, the playback will continue, as will the recordings, the remote won't do much at all, the recordings will all continue until you power cycle the box.

Me too, any ideas? Any specific filenames or USB format?

Just make sure you have nothing else on the flash drive and put the downloaded file in the route directory.

Had the same issues. I got it going by using an old 2Gb memory stick formatted as FAT or FAT32. The update file needs to be on the root folder of the drive.

I assume as the menu can’t be accessed it can’t be told to boot from a USB either? **
Can anyone help? **

If any one else has this issue:
I contacted their support & they sent her out a USB that got the box to boot up properly, it seems fine now.

I am surprised they have not all updated by an over the air update?

Last time, all boxes got the update a few days after it was on their website.

Automan.

Just back from one of my relatives who has one.

It had not updated so I guess it is not being transmitted as an over the air update

I'm guessing no ota because of the known wide screen switching bug.

I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung knew about the problems but released it online to appease owners like us with the data loss problems.

Which Freesat channels does the new widescreen bug effect?

It seems much the same to me with the 14:9 option still not working properly.

I have my one set to the 4:3 option so 4:3 material is shown pillar box. Otherwise everyone looks so fat and stretched

My HDMI output set to 1080p/50hz on the box.

Since upgrading I've had the following issues:

Box rebooted twice in the middle of recording programmes

Temporarily lost scheduled most recordings (could be EPG issue)

Finding the box had turned itself on during the night, but stuck at boot up sequence and must have been running for a number of hours as quite warm by the next morning!

Well done Samsung....... not

Just noticed that ITV Player now works on this machine. Don't think it did after I added the latest update via USB so maybe there has been another OTA update in the last few days?

OK I must be communicating wrong, or may be done something wrong that I am not aware of, as no one seems to reply, even when I try and help others.
anyhow I will try asking just one question very politely .
Could anyone please tell me how I go about getting the ITV player.

You do need an internet connection to access ITV Player (via channel 903)

Not sure if a USB wireless dongle works with the Samsung SMT - S7800 - I would guess not.

Suggest you use a homeplug ethernet connector via your mains cables (about £35)

Blimey - wasn't expecting that! Has anyone loaded it up yet? Is the 4:3 ratio problem sorted?
