It should update automatically. Latest version is 7.0.379
You can always do a manual update (see page 59 of the instruction manual) |

Just how viable is this box nowadays please? I'm in the market for a Freesat PVR. The new Humax box is one to avoid like the plague, so that really only leaves the Samsung, or the Manhattan offerings, neither of which I know a lot about (let's ignore Bush/Goodmans here!).
Based on this thread, it seems that the Samsung is still problematic. Is that still the case though? I'm really not in the market for something that's in effect a continual beta testing exercise -- life is too short. I just want something that I can plug in and it works. Any thoughts, comments, advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA Cheers Clem |

Cheers Clem Surely the issues some have had will be fixed via software updates. Unless of coarse your saying there's some serious hardware faults? |

Surely the issues some have had will be fixed via software updates. Unless of coarse your saying there's some serious hardware faults? Looks like the missed recording problem is fixed but everything else still remains - NAS doesn't find more than 940(ish) files. Lip sync issues with some files after skipping forward/back (files are perfectly OK so it's a box issue). Recording on many channels means losing the start or end if they're not running to schedule - this is a channel issue though and affects all freesat box, should really be in the T&C for channels being on the epg. Uses a huge amount of internet data even when watching live tv. User interface is quite slow and clunky ![]() Just a selection of issues, a more complete list is on the freesat community forum. |

To answer your question - whats the Samsumg box like?
I've been using one for nearly 2 years now and my experience is good. In terms of its functionality it performs very well, is reliable and picture is great. It handles recording clashes quite well with warnings and sensible options like "Oh there's a HD version of this programme would you like to record that instead?" My critisms would be around some particular (missing) features rather than reliablility such as you can't search the whole guide for a particular programme only a day by day search which is bloody quicker to do by manually scrolling throught the guide - this is pain if you dont know when a particular programme is broadcast. software updates are few and far between (once a year if you're lucky) - careful what you say about Humax - you'll have Graham on here leaping to a long and very technical defence of it! |

Thanks. Don't get me wrong, if the new Humax had been in better shape then I'd have bought one by now. Earlier posts in the thread demonstrate exactly the Humax issue for me -- having to load more beta software just to get the thing working, as it should have done from the word go. You have to draw the line somewhere, IMHO. The Samsung is attractive because of the brand, but has seen issues, for sure. The Manhattan HDR-S looks attractive, but I've seen very little 'noise' about this product, which of course could be a good thing.
I'm still undecided ..... Clem |

I didnt realise the box had been discontinued, Shame as mine has been running perfectly since the last firmware update. Guess that means no more online content then.

![]() Also, scheduled recording disappear from the library. When I go to the EPG for that day/time it is usually empty and I have to scroll through 7 days to re-populate it properly. It's not the dish at fault as I have strong signal & quality readings. My TV has built-in FreeSat and has no such problems, which seems to suggest it's a Samsung issue. Wish I'd held out for the new Humax, despite its current bugs, as Humax will at least attempt to resolve them in the long term, unlike Samsung. My dealings with Samsung support have been very unsatisfactory and have put me off buying any further Samsung products in the future

If the Samsung has been discontinued that's reduced the PVR choice even further. The new, flaky Humax, the Manhattan, a Sagem box (if that's still available) and the Bush offerings are about all that's left. Hardly inspiring, but moreover with such a limited, dwindling choice, I wonder how much longer Freesat will be around for. With so few PVRs available, and only a small number of panels with Freesat built-in, I don't see this platform going the distance.

Loss of sound over HDMi with recent update
I updated to the most recent software version, and now I have complete failure of sound over HDMi.
The TV I was using is an LG 26LX2R, now if I plug the hdmi into the bakc of my other TV sound works just fine, what on earth is going on, this occurred only with the most recent update. Is there any way to rollback to the previous software settings? Restore to default doesn't seem to do anything but blank the settings. Please help! |

I have noticed lately several of my recordings are in two parts so I guess the box is rebooting.

Automan did you fix your issue with sound over HDMi?
I can get it to one TV but not to my other and I have absolutely no idea whats wrong. Want to use the HDMi as the scart TV picture is awful compared to teh HDMi picture. Anyone know how to rollback a software update? Is it even possible? |

Not had any sound issues over HDMI since the very first release which did not work when the HDMI was going via a A/V AMP.
Have you tried playing with Settings / Sound / Dolby Digital / DTS Off/On Option? Automan. |

Clem Looks like some good news for freesat ![]() "Freesat today announced it has sold its 3 millionth product, taking gross retail sales to well over £1bn; four years after the service first launched in 2008. Internet phenomenon YouTube are joining the Freesat celebrations and will soon be available on the platform, in a first for free British TV. Freesat added 55,000 new households in the third quarter of 2012. This is more than Sky (25,000 households) and BT Vision (20,000) combined in the same period." "YouTube is the world's most popular online video community allowing millions of people to discover, watch and share originally-created videos. Access to YouTube will soon be possible from the Freesat platform - the first time the service will be available from a free to air provider in the UK. The version of YouTube that will be launched is built on HTML 5 and will be its very latest iteration offering a TV-optimised, visually stunning and fully interactive viewing experience." |

It still doesn't change the fact that there's next to no Freesat kit out there for people to buy. Panasonic is about to release its 2013 range of kit, and from what I can see so far, it's no longer supporting Freesat .....

Still works on my other TV but that isn;t much use as it has a freesat tuner builtin. Is there any way to rollback to old software variants? |
