Hi bramble,
The manual states "external HDD not supported" (page 44) I connected my external HDD which I use with my Samsung TV (formatted fat 32) & it did not recognise it at all. So yes it is limited to USB sticks. Whether this will be supported in the future I do not know, but it seems a shame as this would be a major selling point like it is with their mediaplay TV's As regards to the moving files, I have not tried again. I would have thought that it would move the file even if it could not play it. Will have to try with a known standard AVI/DIVX. Thanks Automan, will have to wait for my dish to arrive then. (if I can get it installed before the Currys 7 day return deadline is up) My Foxsat-HDR plays live TV and recorded TV well and seems to record TV reliably. My main gripes with it are its slow boot up, clunky interface and jerky EPG navigation. While Automan has identified errors in the SMT-S7800's recording scheduling, it seems probable that, if Samsung are serious, they will fix these errors. From what I've seen, the Samsung interface looks attractive - but then what I've seen is the Samsung sales video, so not too surprising it looks good there. However, so far as I am concerned, if the slow boot and slow EPG population are features, I don't see it offering much benefit over the Foxsat-HDR. (I even tried a Goodmans 500GB freesat HD PVR a year ago for a couple of months and it was, to my surprise, not bad to use - much less clunky than the Foxsat-HDR and correctly supported record from buffer... but, of course it was let down by a lack of reliability.) I will be interested to see whether these problems with the Samsung are resolved over the next few months. |

Another couple of small both plus & minus.
In Library view of recordings, you get no notification of new recordings in the series link folders and thus you have to check each folder for new items with a green dot next to them. Dad's Army recorded by series link had no folder created for it. Perhaps it can't handle the ' character? It does not auto remove series link folders that are empty. Plus points From Live TV watching a program that has already started you can press record and you then get the option to record it or the complete series (should it apply). From livetv Blue button takes you to last channel viewed and may explain why no ITV SD message to press it for HD? Program delete seems faster than the HDR. Automan. |

Hi, Does it support Samsung internet@tv? Quote:
Ok my first impressions of it is very very good I like the feel of the remote and it works from any part of the room I am in and from any angle which is good. Plus some of the keys glow in the dark. I have try the remote from 22 feet away and it works fine.
It is very easy to set up and the menu system is fast. I also got Channel 4 HD on the Non-freesat part and did a test recording of what was on at the time and it played back OK. The iPlayer works well and I had NOT even set up the network yet. The Samsung box find and set the internet network up by itself without me having to do anything apart from pluging the network cable in the back of the box. YouTube work well and quick also, I had a quick try out and was happy with it. Now the thing is am I happy I got this? Well at the moment that will have to be a big YES as what I have seen so far is very good. ![]() But remember I have only had this for a few hours so far. So that is my first impressions. |

Have tested USB stick with an Xvid file. It will transfer to the internal drive, and play from the USB. However there is no FF/REW play functionality, only play, stop, pause ,skip forward and back by 1 minute.
Seriously thinking about swapping it for a Foxsat. According to the email I had from Humax, there is no replacement model for the FoxsatHDR planned at the moment. It may be identical hardware from 2008 but it works. |

I'm also having the same problems as everyone else on here. I've completed a review on the Samsung website listing them and I've also e-mailed Freesat about these problems.
Has anyone else tried to remove the adult channels from the EPG? It lets you do this but then a couple of hours later they appear again. I think it is shocking that this box was released when it just doesn't work properly as a PVR. I've had the Humax two years and although it has its quirks, it always recorded what I wanted it to. Whereas this Samsung box doesn't do that. Also I don't buy into the fact that people buying new technology should expect to be beta testers. What happened to quality controll? One person testing this box for half a day could have found all the problems and they could have rectified them. I don't see why Samsung have rushed this product out? |

Definitely software update is needed, I'm pretty sure Samsung will do it within a few months, if it wants to be a serious competitor to already available PVRs.
I case of bugs: >In guide it shows the series link symbol for some programs that have no series link. How can it be determined, that a programme has a series link without trying to record it? Is there a possibility to display CRIDs just like on humax? Haven't seen any "has_series"-like icon. >If the HD showing of a program is at a different time or day from the SD, when you go to book the SD version it does not offer the HD version e.g. Thursday 21:00 BBC2 Probably only HD simulcast are taken into account. However, HD alternatives are displayed with detailed programme description. Several other things observed: + changing the channel doesn't flush the recorded buffer for some period of time! one can change the channel, go back and still have buffered content! + when several programmes are buffered, one can navigate through them be left right keys on information banner and instant jump to selected one (OK). One can also instantly save each of buffered programmes. - Media: [Photo] is selected by default. Very annoying. Either last content shall be selected or [All] shall be default one. ?(+/-) number keys filters channels by numbers both in guide and the channel list. For me it's OK, one can always clear the filter with Back key. |

Well Last night was the first time I have spent some time using this box without others wanting to watch things on it. Most of the week I have been working or people have been watching their programs and so on.
First of all I do like the box and it has got a lot going for it, but after spending half the night playing with the box (no work today) There are some big problems with this box which should have been sorted before Samsung release it. These are some of the software bugs that need to be fixed 1. In settings/channels/Adult services – Hidden or Visible. With Hidden turned on, The Adult services are not hidden. Children CAN still watch the Adult channels. (I was wondering why the lad and his mate was watching a shopping channel and looking a bit jumpy when I walk from work) 2. If you delete unwanted channels (Adult & others) from the channel list. When the Samsung go into Standby and you wait for the clock/time to go off and then you turn it on (Active) all the deleted channels come back on to the TV list including the Adult channels. It looks like it is not saving the channels settings or something. It also tells me it is not deleting the channels but is only hiding them. 3. When I have set to record an item on BBC HD the box has recorded in other BBC regions and not in HD. It is not ever recording in my own region but take a lucky pick from any of the regions. ( I first notice this the other day but put it down to the kids messing up the recordings again which has happen on the sky box with them) Even when you have deleted all the BBC regions from your channel list, it still records them. So it is just hiding the channels and not deleting them as it says. If the channels where deleted then you would have to do a rescan to get them back onto your box. 4. I seem to have problems with picking two programs one after the other on flimfour to record from the Guild. Odd because I can do it on other channels from the guild. Also there is no manual timer so you can’t set it manual which is something which need to be added for when record from the Guild don’t work like with the above. 5. Unlike sky boxes your schedule and your recording are not in the same place and so can not be seen at the same time. Your find schedule to record and Series links to record are under “Timer” Your recorded one offs & Series link recordings are under “Contents” so you have to go from timer to contents to see what been recorded, It might have been more easy to have everything in one menu like sky does. But that might just be me nit picking. As I said already there is a lot I like about this box but the above bugs need to be fix very soon. A big company like Samsung should have sorted all this out before releasing this box. I know other boxes also had bugs problems when release, But why rush it out before it was ready? I have sent a few reports of the bugs to the review page and have phone Samsung up about the bugs. After talking with for 10minutes or so, they said they will get someone to phone me back in the week sometime. Let wait and see. |

Probably only HD simulcast are taken into account. However, HD alternatives are displayed with detailed programme description. I was also wondering if Samsung UK subbed out the software development to the cheapest bidder for a tender? BTW, The unit is made in Hungary. Automan. |

What bothers me the most is that there is a cracking PVR being held back by dodgy software, I will put up with these problems for now, in the hope Samsung pull their fingers out and fix them. Luckily I have moved my HDR upstairs so will use that as a back up for now.

Question...
Does your S7800 box after power up (from low power standby) say on-screen, top left corner. "HDD Not ready" followed shortly by "HDD Ready"? Automan. |

I have now managed to make some HD recordings more by luck than anything else
![]() Anyway, playing back Countryfile I have noted the odd, may be 3 in 30 minutes glitches in the sound just as if you had quickly pressed the mute button rapidly twice. The program is just in Dolby Digital Stereo and the glitches are too brief to register on my amp display. Checking earlier on signal levels & signal quality I noted the readings are not as high as they were on my HDR which I guess may be the issue plus it is recording two other items one of which should be in HD plus I guess the live-tv buffer which may also be a HD channel. During recording playback no on-screen information is available so I cannot check what channels are recording other than by the red coloured "REC" display on the player front. DVB Subtitles work okay on the BBC HD channels as does Audio Description mode. Automan. |

Some ore Photo's
When you press Lib you can either watch your recordings or check your timers. As you will see in the photo no clue as to which folder has anything new to watch in ![]() http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...4-04085248.jpg Once you open a folder you get a green indicator on unwatched recordings (or only watched briefly. It only seems to create the thumbnail when you watch the recording). http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...4-04085313.jpg Checking your Timers This can be hard work as there is no time sequential list and each folder has to be checked one by one. http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...4-04085334.jpg My Diagnosis Murder one has changed itself to all Northern Ireland, I am in BBC2 SE http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...4-04085429.jpg It is a shame you cannot see images directly in this forum ![]() EDIT: Just finished watching the Sky At Night Recorded on BBC 1 HD. Well, except the end was cut off just in Patrick's closing remarks ![]() And of course no option to add more time to recording end. Automan. |

I see it now has a review on Samsung's site by someone who gave it less stars than me!
http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/t...il&tab=reviews Also as I mentioned earlier the box cut off the end of "The Sky At Night" on BBC1 HD. My Humax-HDR was also set to record this so I have checked it and it recorded the complete program (Start & End settings in Auto). Humax made a 21m recording. Samsung made a 19:08 recording. So I guess it does not wait for the next program start signal before it stops recording? Automan. |

I can understand you being none to happy about your purchase, but why didn't you do more research before buying,or better still hold back for a few weeks to see what if any problems were evident.
Although I am happy to be an early adopter of new technology, this is Samsungs first venture into the Freesat PVR market so it would be highly likely there would be problems. Personally I think it will probably turn out to be a decent piece of kit,and I doubt it will be too long before Samsung iron out the problems. If you not willing to wait for this to happen(which is understandable) I am sure you won't have a problem returning it and getting a refund. I would wait if I expected them to quickly respond and to add the HDD support /file copy I was expecting. I will wait a couple of days for samsungs response. |

I fed back the chn4 family of problems to Samsung, chn4 & freesat. Only one response from chn4. Quote:
Dear Automan, Just conducting a power cut test from lower power standby and I would say the test will be a pass.Thank you for contacting Channel 4 Viewer Enquiries. Unfortunately you would need to contact Freesat or Samsung about this issue. Thank you again for taking the time to contact us here at Channel 4, we hope you continue to enjoy our programming. I also taped Sky at Night and the end was missed off and it was missed off the end of premiership rugby highlights on ITV HD (at least it taped the HD version though).
One thing I have noticed is if I try to record a single one off programme then it will disappear from the schedule. If I tape series link then it will be recorded. |
