Well ish.........

I have a Sky plus box so I CAN get ITV (it is in my HDMI1 'socket). I also have a freeview Samsung HDD/DVD recorder (HDMI2 socket) via which I can't get ITV, but I CAN get ITV4 (for completeness I have a DVD recorder linked to the TV in the AV1 socket). I suspect this is a common problem but I do not have the answer people! Can someone with knowledge please advise. Cheers.

Can you get Channels 4 and 5 on the Samsung? Plus the other channels on the same mux as ITV1 as listed here

http://www.dtg.org.uk/industry/dtt_channels.html

If they are all missing then you've lost a mux. One quick fix to try first is to delete all your existing channels and do a full rescan. See if that restores the channels. If there is an option to do a full reset of the machine then try that - though it will likely delete any timer recordings set up. It is possible that the tuning data the machine stores has become corrupt some how so clearing it all out and starting again may cure it.

Afraid not. Did a full rescan before I posted my message. Can get BBC1 and 2, then BBC Three and Four.

One more thing.

How is your aerial routed through all the bits of kit? If it goes to the Sky box first then it is possible that it's modulator is set to a frequency close to or on top of the ITV mux frequency. That would prevent the recorder picking it up.

You could easily verify this by plugging the aerial directly into the Samsung and try again. If you now get the ITV mux then you know what the cause is! The solution is to either bypass the Sky box permanently or if you feed it's output to other TVs change the channel it's modulator uses (will need to retune all the tellies though).
