BSkyB Is Now Officially A YouView Content Partner

“The satcaster, which operates its own Sky Anytime+ VOD on its boxes and has its Sky Player on numerous third-party IPTV boxes, has routinely lodged sceptical submissions to the regulatory processes around YouView.

But the regulatory processes are over. BSkyB’s inclusion on this list must be a clear sign that Sky is working with the YouView partners - BBC, ITV (LSE: ITV), Channel 4, Channel 5, BT (NYSE: BT) TalkTalk and Arqiva - to bring Sky Player to YouView as well.”

Just needs VM to join, but VM does not have any content left now it has sold it's own channels to Sky!

So why does it need VM to join then???

Looks like with Sky Player added, all the UK main content providers have joined, but looks like Sky and VM will keep their own hardware boxes rather than offer Youview boxes.

The advantage for VM could be to offer an enhanced "national" broadband/DTT/IPTV service with Youview boxes outside it's cable areas.

the Guardian has a headline "BSkyB makes U-turn over YouView" and a quote from Sky saying they are "exploring" but have not fully committed yet!
Quote:
“A Sky spokesperson said: "We already distribute Sky content across a wide range of platforms. It makes sense for us to continue to explore new ways of reaching customers, but it's too early to say at this stage whether we'll offer a service over YouView."

The YouView chief executive, Richard Halton, said: "We're delighted with the response we've had from the creative industries.

"We want all types of content providers to be able to deliver their content via YouView so viewers get the best possible choice.”
