Island of dreamers

Island of dreamers, oasis I love
Where there lie vistas of turquoise above,
Those who adore it can’t wait to set sail,
Secretive ships on a paradise trail.

Here where the homecoming albatross glides
Nothing but beauty is seen on all sides,
I'm soon relaxed by the long sunny days
Caught in the ambience of the warm haze.

Stowaways lost on a white sandy beach
Glad to gain freedom and stay out of reach,
Gently this shoreline refreshes and bathes
Shells left for years to incoming blue waves.

Letting the mind ease while sipping a drink
With all the time in the world just to think,
Sometimes a magic I thought lost in me
Wakes when I stare at the deeps of the sea.

And as the breeze sings her sweet serenade
Through leaning palm trees that spread cooling shade
O how the afternoon moments inspire,
Island of dreamers, the place I desire.

I really don't mean to be nosey
And I really don't mean to be soppy
But I hear Musty's got a new book of poesy
So I just had to order myself a copy

I shall read it when on the train
And let the verses transport me to another place
Of ancient standing stones on a grassy plain
Or another trip to Mars in outer space

Great write Ovalteenie - I got the image of you reading the book on a night train dreaming of Avebury

Thanks so much again for buying it

Musty's book is, of course, wonderful and it really does make a difference to me reading a poem in a 'proper' book rather than on the internet.

Somehow seems to give the poems more gravitas, as it were.

Dreamer that you are, you don't really need to go there do you. Not having your imagination, I bought myself a DVD of "The Best Caribbean Beaches". and have been known to sit watching it while listening to the gentle surf breaking. Very relaxing.

Welcome to Ovalteenie, the instant poet. Don't forget to let the other passengers have a good view of the beautiful book cover.

I agree with you Sandy. I would have said here, here, but I can never remember whether it is that or hear, hear, but you know what I mean.

I also would rather read the printed page Troy and it's easier to find a poem by glancing down the index. It's not so easy on the internet.

Thanks so much everyone, I've been humbled by most peoples' kind words and wishes on DS

( I'm working flat-out on a follow up which will be much larger with no increase in cost )

another circus

The Ringmaster entered and something felt wrong
The Big Tent lacked people and sound

The juggler let plates spin and wobble too long
And all of them smashed on the ground

The confident tamer who lashed the whip straight
Now dreaded each tiger and lion

The strong man attempted to pick up a weight
Yet struggled to lift heavy iron

The man who ate fire was gripped by such fear
He poured water on the flame’s source

The girl who did tricks with no saddle could steer
But failed to control her own horse

The boy on the tightrope fell minus a net
The Ringmaster looked at the clown

Who left with a smile and a terrible threat,
The ghost circus had come to town.

5 Minute Quickie

I have a book arrived today
It's looks quite good I have to say
A little read I've had a chance
It merits more than just a glance
Each page is filled with words and rhyme
Tomorrow I will give it extra time
Feet up and coffee near to hand
The weekend is looking really grand

Actually read a few and just had one read out to me

enjoyed by much, done very well
keep it up, for Volume 2
wait to hear, more poems new
done with thought, to and so
be proud and grand, go, go, go.

I usually do Humpty Dumpty ones

In seriousness we have to try to get our wee ones to understand rhyme and have fun doing so, I make up daft words that will rhyme with their name.......if your name rhymes with ****** you can do such a thing

It's always nice to have a poem written for you Thanks Mrs T and Sandy You can't beat some quiet time letting a bit of verse take you away, or reflect on something you may have felt but not seen through poetry's unique lens.
