My first attempt at pure alliteration.

Wasteland

Winter weather worsens
Wicked white wasteland
With wild westerly winds
Worried, we wondered
When was worse witnessed?
While wishing with whimsy
We were warm.

Wow - no pun intended either Meno The hardest thing here must be keeping up a narrative that makes sense. As if using the same starting letters isn't tough enough It's also topical! Clever stuff my friend

Hi Sandy, I'm glad you're back I took Just For Tea to my files and tried to alter it slightly. I wondered if a few changes might give it another twist. I failed miserably though, it's perfect as it stands I hope you don't mind what I tried; it could have been my first collaboration - not exactly Lennon and McCartney but worth a shot

I don't mind, what were you trying to alter?

Well, I popped in briefly this morning, and I thought I hope Sandy hasn't stayed up all night waiting for Musty, but at least he's had a good night's sleep, which I'm sure he needed..............but what do I find? He's been up toying with Sandy's poem.

Maybe they've both had a snooze this afternoon - I do hope so.

Quite a feat Menoetius. Mind you the wind was in the east which is"neither good for man nor beast" - but poetic licence is not only allowed but encouraged on this thread.

Thanks.
This was wriiten for a contest on a poetry site that I frequent.

The letter W being chosen by the member who started the contest. He's from Hawaii so hopefully unaware of the poetic licence And probably unaware that it is topical, for us.

Although alliteration features in a fair amount of the nonsense that I write, I'd never written a poem with every word starting with the same letter. I thought I'd give it a go.

I posted a couple of poems a few pages back. They were also contest entries.
Night Swimming was awarded silver - 2nd place.
Here Endeth The Lesson got gold - it won the contest

I couldn't resist entering a contest called "Limericks 4 Jesus".
It's no surprise that it came nowhere. Reading the other entries, I fear that I may have misunderstood what was required.

Prophet And Loss

Asked the saviour when nailed to the cross
Has this structure been painted in gloss
Told it's fit for a prophet
"But we'll make nothing off it"
Said the maker, "It sold for a loss".

Happens quite frequently on the limerick thread.

I'm sleeping better than ever Biz, I usually stay awake too late or wake up at three in the morning  I had a lot of discomfort yesterday, that's why I didn't get on here.

Thoroughly deserved in my opinion As you probably know Meno, you have to be careful with religion as it's such a touchy subject. For example I could never write a poem about Allah, I wouldn't even risk it. I've already had a poem about a Catholic priest deleted on DS.

Oh Musty, it's a little poem, let's see if we can jiggle it about a little.

Love sits still for those who wait
as others pass upon thy gate
ambling freely cuddle thee
time enough and just for tea.

I hope you are feeling a little better today Musty.

Look at some Daffodils, they are a sign that spring has sprung and makes a day a little brighter.

I got the impression you were a bit of an insomniac. Sorry to hear you've been in pain - the above should cheer you up a bit. I think Sandy's flirting with you.

It's just as nice to look at daffodils in pictures or paintings.John William Waterhouse painted daffodils in his paintings

I am Sandy, but no daffs are visible from my window, drat I love JW Waterhouse, especially his masterpiece The Lady of Shalott 'Cuddle thee' works well and gives the poem a loving touch, something I usually go without but could do with at the moment

It Started With a Sunset

It started with a sunset
In nineteen eighty-six,
True faith became my lantern,
Enlightenment my fix.

One ordinary evening
I strolled through suburbs fair
And then I saw the sunset
Beyond the rooftops there.

Though I’d seen dusks of beauty
So many times before
I felt this sky was hinting
That life meant something more.

I hadn’t been converted,
I’d done no pious deed
Yet what I witnessed sent me
An individual creed.

From purple, gold and crimson
The inspiration came
To find a deeper meaning,
A god without a name.

Today I’m still a seeker
But sure as temple bricks:
It started with a sunset
In nineteen eighty-six.

Glad you like the 'cuddle thee' and that you are feeling a little better.

Here's a little hug from me. (())

Thanks Sandy - that's better By the way pop-pickers in 1987 a single was released that chimed emotionally for me with that sunset moment. The song title's in the poem - a whole Mars Bar for anyone who finds it

I know you are, and very successfully it seems - I'm a bit of a tease at times you know, but mean no harm. It's good to see you here.

I still have plenty of snowdrops and the odd crocus to keep me happy - and the snow which seems to be drifting down all day isn't lying.

Yes, beauty gives us hope, and life's no fun without that.

I'll leave the Mars Bar for someone more knowledgeable about music than I am - I've had my chocolate ration for today.

Is it True Faith by New Order?

I had a Mars bar earlier today and I noticed they are getting smaller.

On A Late Spring

I wondered if daffodils would ever come on out,
Or Winter quit this year’s impregnable redoubt

A laureate’s golden words seem so very far away,
No host of yellow petals have ventured to display.

March at a tortoise pace uncoils a laggard Spring,
Sane hares we hear jump sans their normal zing

Green shoots I see Nature's flag of nascent flower,
Cometh the propitious moment so comes the hour.

And there peeping through the first flower springs
A muted bud soon followed by new butterfy wings.
