Let's hope so or maybe tomorrow As it turns out he doesn't need me to sort him out, he has some terrific neighbours to help him get home today so I'll see him as soon as I can once he's settled back at home

He sounded in good spirits when I spoke to him just now which has made my day

That's excellent again Dark Star. I believe one neighbour in particular has been very kind to him, so it's all good news.

Welcome back Musty

I've been posting daily my poems for US National Poetry Month here's my one for today.

A variation on a haiku

I went up the road
Saw a bunch of strange people
Addressed them "oh hi queue"

If I may.

One was a lady
I got to thinking maybe
and said "I like you"

So good to see you back Musty. Please take a long and easy convalescence.

I was just looking at famous love letters and it seems quite apt from your verse, this particular one that would appeal.
There is a letter from James Joyce to his wife to be Nora and it says

15 August, 1904

My dear Nora,

It has just struck me. I came in at half past eleven. Since then I have been sitting in an easy chair like a fool. I could do nothing. I hear nothing but your voice. I am like a fool hearing you call me 'Dear.' I offended two men today by leaving them coolly. I wanted to hear your voice, not theirs.

When I am with you I leave aside my contemptuous, suspicious nature. I wish I felt your head on my shoulder. I think I will go to bed.

I have been a half-hour writing this thing. Will you write something to me? I hope you will. How am I to sign myself? I won't sign anything at all, because I don't know what to sign myself.

Popping The Question (#8)

In a twinkling of moonlight
the atmosphere was right
all that age-old magic that
was night the apt moment
to clutch within sight he'd
an inkling to pop her a vital
query if not now then when?

Inwardly he craved wanting
and hunger stayed, could no
no longer wait, began to salivate,
just the time for a chap to ask:
"mine's fries and a coke, whatyer
having love? Well he is a bloke.

Was that surgeons knife rusty?
Illness strikes unjustly.
Get well soon dear Musty
Stay in bed until you're crusty.

Spring is limping into bloom
and like a logjam in a flume
all the flowers and the birds
will soon leave us lost for words.

@Sandy - sorry to lower the tone, on the theme of expressions of emotions beginning with L, but one which made me chuckle the first time I heard it, was in a song by KillDozer I think, or might have been Crust:

Spoiler
I'd drag my balls through a mile of broken glass, just to beat off on her shadow.

Can you say the word 'Love'?

I've not heard of that song Archiver but it does sound a bit heavy metally by the name of the group.

More lust than the other L word you mentioned I thought.

It's possible I imagined the whole thing, but I think I must've loaned the album it's on to a friend. Lost a few that way.

The Line

Where is the line?
What line?
Who's line
is it anyway?

My line
This line
It's my line
it is indeed.

Evening Archiver and Sandy, good to see you. I expected to see Frank with his poem for the day, but perhaps he'll be in later.

Goodnight.

A ridiculous contest entry I penned earlier.
The prompt was "Viking Mice"

Rodents Of Odin

Frightened, the enemy know what is coming,
Alerted by synchronised, rhythmical drumming,
Below the horizon for now out of sight,
They're perfectly timed to attack in the night.

Twenty ships strong, an unstoppable force,
Plotting revenge as they're plotting their course,
Commanded to search every villagers house,
To put to the sword every mole, shrew and mouse.

Two hundred hamsters and mice and chinchillas,
All battle hardened and highly trained killers,
Lusting for blood and approaching the shore,
The rodents of Odin are ready for war.

Good job Menoetius with the task, not an easy subject to be thrown I'm sure. Quite fun to read, good to see more participants on this long thread.

A bit late for Apr 9

Health & Safety Arresting The Ascent of Man

Do not stroke that cat
do not climb that tree
do never take any risk
in fear of the calamity
the potential for which
is in this life the natural
normalcy. Those health
and safety robocoppers,
ban conkers/gobstoppers
warn do not climb a wall,
bureaucratic god fobid
what might just execute
a humans' fall, a police
weak with pusillanimity
and papermice perforce
and unhelpful restraints
enforce. Do not dive to
save a life, if not a saver
trained, may eventuate
in loss of lives if rescue
is not entertained. Alas,
and of course alack, to
appease gods of caution
they propitiate they'll not
aportion any mortal action
to uncertain arrows of Fate.
As Icherus ascends and
wings away you hear the
naysaying scolds to say:
"Wait Ich old son you forgot
the factor eight, you'll burn
without it in that sun, global
warming remember, that's no
myth, you people never learn."

Aaah! But you see Icarus should have done as he was told. It's all about moderation isn't it. A bit of a lost art in some quarters.
