Musty, from what perspective are you writing about Avebury, in a past, present or future tense?

There's a variety of perspectives Sandy. Some poems are situated back in the actual stone age, describing the building of the monuments. Some portray the site as it is today, illustrating sections in ruin and what's missing. Also, a few characters who had vital roles in Avebury's story are highlighted, including Alexander Keiller, a hero of mine.

And the sweets only have a hint of lemon but the sherbert explodes in your gob

”

That's interesting, will you include illustrations to accompany the poems?

I just had a look at Alexander Keiller, he married a few times. Pictures of Avebury Manor and grounds look nice.

Sherbet does, it can also wiggle your nose.

I'm having new colour photographs taken for the book - no matter how vivid a poem is, seeing the amazing things at Avebury does it best. I'm going to be in one of them for scale, so I'll be visible at last If the photos don't happen there'll be no book, so I'm praying my cameraman can make it.

Alexander Keiller was a fascinating character - a skier, pilot and a bit of a 1930s playboy really. Luckily he was into archeology too and his wealth as a Scottish marmalade heir allowed him to buy vast areas of Avebury and restore it. His team dug up many long-buried megaliths and put them back in their original 5,000 year old locations. Pre-Keiller Avebury was a messy, overgrown, unrecognisable excuse of a site. What a hero

Hi Lucky - welcome again, this place is a safe haven

Yeah, the plan is to start with some very early shots taken at sunrise. For these the Sanctuary, Silbury Hill and other monuments are a long way from the main site. I've written a special sunset poem which will need long shadows and a glorious evening in the main henge. The weather forecast's got to be right before we set off

Prayer

Cast these heavy chains away
And let their shackles fall,
Tell me how I find a way
That leads me to your hall.

There at last behind the doors
I'll lose these tears of mine,
Where I'll place my hands in yours
Before you pour the wine.

Help my eyes behold and then
Return the skies to blue
So I see the world again
As beautiful and true.

Looking at the rivers here
Unable to decide,
I will choose the boat to steer
But only you can guide.

Show horizons far and warm
Above a green domain,
Rid me of this petty storm
Along with fear and pain.

Through the night when hope is gone
And I am less than whole
Shine your healing light upon
The darkness in my soul.

Boom Boom I'm off to Eastbourne tomorrow, so I'll have a break from writing. Hopefully by next Friday the Avebury suite of poems will be complete, then I can get back to other topics. I'm thoroughly enjoying this project though

Lemony sherberts,
loved by herberts,
pencil in hand,
face looking grand.
sucking and thinking,
not even blinking
until the sucker's
mouth suddenly puckers,
with drawn in cheeks,
he vows his next treats....

will definitely be sweeter sweets.

Enjoy your time in Eastbourne and hopefully you'll come back all refreshed and ready to carry on and finish your Avebury poems and maybe Eastbourne will give you a little inspiration.
