..........The Beatles often tucked away some of their best work on B-sides. Yesterday, their most covered song, was amazingly never released as a single in the UK either. Most of this was down to Brian Epstein. As The Beatles' manager he was very conscious of not ripping off the fans and singles were often never available on albums as well. He didn't see why fans should pay for the same song twice.
That was actually a very clever move, because their fans would be keen to buy all their records. They were certainly prolific.........as well as being very talented.

Re. "Rain" I really liked the track. As a completist it's in the collection with my Lennon paperbacks. Nicely done Musty, keep flying poetry and the Fab Four's flags as you do.

Blinding stuff Musty.

We've discussed this track before, it's one of my favourites of theirs.

Love the video too.

Thanks for the feedback everyone Of course, Beatle fans like me who were too young to buy their singles in the Sixties had trouble obtaining songs like Rain in the Seventies. I had to track down an American import album to get it! EMI took ages to make all of the Fabs' music commercially available. Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane never made it onto a British album until 1973, six years after the single's release

Great write Frank A litany of images to illustrate the wild west - and the lack of major brush strokes didn't weaken the painting at all.

lavender song

They met where the lavender flowered
Romantic in scent and tone,
The only things now that empowered
Were secrets they shared alone.
His whisper was sadly spoken,
Her kisses were joy's own key
And when at last love had awoken
The lavender set them free.

the dragonfly's visit

Hello little
Dragonfly,
How you sooth my jaded eye,
Flitting lightly on the breeze,
Nature made you just to please.

Where the river's
Bend exceeds,
Through these verdant haunting reeds
Bright you glisten in the sun
Till your daily tasks are done.

Farewell little
Dragonfly,
Tender as a poet's sigh,
Glad I waited just to see
And once more you came to me.

Agreed Troy. I think Musty likes to throw in the occasional concession to readers of more fragile dispositions.

Oooh! I think I'll be hiding behind the sofa when I read the next one.

Dear mr m,

Long time no see. You look well. The years have been kind.

Best wishes

John
My poems aren't really poems, they are songs. They might suffer from insufficient flow when reading them, but believe me when I say that with the beautiful melody of a guitar behind them, they flow very well.

I want the world to know that they exist, that my muse inspired their birth, and that love created their words. You know who you are and I love you. x

You Are Worth Saving

I wonder what you’re doing tonight
Are you thinking of me holding you tight?
Thinking of how we used to be?
Do you ever take the time to think of me?

I wonder what you’re doing today
Living life so many miles away
Does my face ever cross your mind?
Or has your heartbreak burned your memory blind?

I’m sorry for the things that I said
And I’m sorry for the words that you read
I’m so sorry for the pain you’ve been through
I’m sorry that I doubted my faith in you
I’m sorry for the tears that you’ve cried
Fighting demons deep down on the inside
I’m so sorry that I set them all free
Mental demons are the ones I just didn’t see

I wonder if you’re reading this line
Words are cheap but all of these words are mine
Right now they’re all I can offer to you
But they come with a heart that’s forever true

I wonder if you’re feeling the same
All you have to do is call out my name
Let our spirits satisfy their spiritual craving
Hear my voice, sweet one, “You are worth saving”

I’m sorry that it’s taken this long
For me to realise that I was so wrong
I’m so sorry for the hell you’ve been through
I’m sorry for all the things I did not do
I’m sorry if my words broke your heart
I couldn’t stand being so far apart
I’m so sorry that I gave up on you
I didn’t see everything from your point of view

I wonder if this is our final goodbye
I’d rather it wasn’t, but I can’t force you to try
I understand your reasons, I won’t put up a fight
But I’ll always be there for you, somewhere in the night

I loved you. I still love you. I will always love you.

Goodbye cruel world, it is my time to go
For it is I who is not worth saving

I Have Faith in You

In the cold, dark still of night
I think of you again
The final words you said to me
Float around my brain
And I don’t think I’ll forget
How they made me feel that day
So I wrote them in this song
And I sing your words this way

“I know I caused you pain
But you caused me pain, too
Be happy and be strong
I have faith in you”

I always thought we’d be
Friends forever true
Maybe time will heal our pain
And our friendship will come through
But until that day arrives
I’ll repeat your words to me
Sing them every single day
To a simple melody

“I know I caused you pain
But you caused me pain, too
Be happy and be strong
I have faith in you”

The quote was just put there to keep it separate from the main text, kind of like a letter.

It has been a long time, and much has happened in that time. I am nearing 30, that bar steward Robbie Williams has rejoined Take That and got married, something I never thought would happen , and I discovered that the love of my life and soul mate really does exist.

But enough about me; how's things in mustard land?

I'm glad you found your muse John

I'm the same as ever - this year has been crazy so far and I had to take a short break from writing poetry when things got very heavy. But the thread goes on and I'm pleased that we've made it to Part 3 I rarely post elsewhere on DS, because I don't like minefields.

I really enjoyed I Have Faith in You, it has a great message. I hope you can send in more songs; in essence they're poems too

john-stirling's songs remind me of a rhyme I made some time ago:

If you were in a quandary
and I was in a state,
I'd still help with the laundry
and tell you - you're great.

If you were in Australia
and I was in Iraq,
every day I'd mail ya
and tell you - I'll be back.

If you were in denial
and I was sure as eggs,
I'd soon make you smile
and tickle your legs.

If we were back together.
If you were here right now.
Life would be much better.
I keep thinking _wow!

If someone came between us
I'd turn and sternly say:
Oy! You ignoramus,
kindly go away.

If you thought for a moment
there is just a chance,
with no further postponement
I'd jump up and dance.

'Cause I think you're amazing
and if you were my queen,
I'd set about arranging
everything of which you dream.

Every whim or tiny notion,
just say. It shall be done.
I'd show you my devotion
runs rings around the sun.

Variety is.........and all that.

Loved John's and Archiver's poems.

Although they are poems in their own right, I'd love to hear John's musical versions. How about putting them on utube (or is it youtube) John?

Hi all I haven't posted anything much of late, but it's been a pretty full weekend and I haven't knocked my notes into shape yet. Everything stops here for the Antiques Roadshow and there's a film on later that I fancy, so the poem might not be finished till tomorrow

Hope everyone's having a nice weekend

We hope you had a good weekend too, Musty and have enjoyed some rest and relaxation. It would be a pity if your poetry and thread became an onerous obligation for you instead of the pleasure it is to your readers.

Perhaps some more of your friends will pop in with their work, to give you a breathing space.

Never Biz - I love writing poetry too much for it to feel like work. And I know the thread's in good hands if I can't get here - it'll always be a joint effort, as I said before

"I'm off the bus"
"I just got on"
The mating call
Of the mobile phone.
This chorus not a modern plus,
I know more about your bloody business
than my eff'ing own.

The menace of communication

(after getting on and off a London omnibus - Frank)
I wonder how parents manage to afford their kids' phone bills. It must cost them a fortune.
