Hi - I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on what I should get as a new phone.

I've had an iPhone 3gs for 18 months, and generally have been pretty happy with it, but time has come to change. I would just go for an iPhone 4, or even wait for an iPhone 5, but frankly I can't really afford it.

I have no prejudices regarding OS, so any suggestions will be gratefully received.

I am looking for a phone to have/do the following:

Actually be good as a phone - the iPhone only just made the grade as a phone, so my new phone has got to be at least as good as that.

Listening to music - I listen to music a lot, both on headphones and via bluetooth on the hifi at home, so sound quality has to be OK, I certainly wouldn't want a drop in quality compared to the iPhone.

Storage: 32Gb. That rules out the Nexus S.

Screen: 3.5 inch minimum. Better resolution than iPhone 3gs, but then most things are nowadays.

Video calling! Yes, I will be one of the few people in the world that might actually use this due to phone signal being rubbish at work but wifi being freely available, so a front facing camera would be great.

Form factor: 120mm x 60mm or thereabouts. Certainly not much bigger.

Budget: About £450.

When: Within the next month.

Many thanks.

iPhone 4
Pro: it's has the best music player and speaker sounds amazing
Pro: It has 32GB
Pro: Has the best looking screen out there
Pro: Good size

Con: £612

HTC Desire
Pro: Awesome music player and FM radio
Pro: Very clear and attractive screen
Pro: Good size
Pro: £300 on Amazon

Con: speaker sounds tinny (it does on mine anyway)
Con: 512 MB internal memory. A 4GB card is included, but many apps and basic phone functions can't be held on this. You could expand external memory to 32GB, but microSD cards that size cost a fortune.

HTC Desire HD

If your iPhone is up for renewal and you have £450 to spend, you'd be able to get an iPhone 4 for less on a new contract and you wouldn't have to take one of the more expensive ones. I pay £35 a month and paid about £200 for the phone.

Is it that you're looking for SIM free only?

The Galaxy S Super AMOLED was a preferred screen for some so its certain that the Super AMOLED PLUS will be rated at the top.

Pre-orders are supposedly for delivery on the 6th May but to me £540 is stupid money, even if it is dual core etc.

OP - As above, you should be able to get a reasonable amount on ebay for your 3GS.

Does anyone know if the iphone4 has reduced in price on the apple website since last year?.

16GB - £510
32GB - £612

Reason i ask. My wife is considering buying the iphone4 but if the iphone5 is due june and likely to be the same price i will urge her to wait.
