If I buy/start a SIM only 30 day contract with Orange via their website can I wait for it to turn up and then ring them to have an Orange PAYG number transferred onto the new SIM?

Or would I have to mess around porting the number out to another network's SIM and then port again onto the new Orange one?

Also, would I be able to give them 30 days notice and have the contract SIM turn into a PAYG one, once it'd be cheaper to topup every other month again?

Hi,

If you were to take out a SIM only agreement once the SIM was registered you could request the PAYG number to be moved to the new account. This is done instantly however depending on how busy the network is may take up to 24 hours to be completed in most instances this is not the case.

If you decide you do not want to continue on the SIM only you can give 30 days notice and at the time request a new PAYG SIM to transfer the number back.

Customer Services will run you through the process when you register if required.

Do you need to order a new sim. Just phone up Orange and ask them to put you on that plan with your current sim and number?

You definitely would need a new SIM card in order to move an existing number from our Pay As You Go to our Pay Monthly service. This process isn't possible using the same SIM card at the moment.

No issues with it taking up to 24h as it's my mum's phone, not a number used for business or anything like that, and we can just request the switch when we know she'll be in for the following couple of days where the fixed line would be available.

Can any remaining Pay and Go credit be used against the contract?

I moved from Orange PAYG to Orange Contract Monthly a couple of years ago and they moved my remaining PAYG credit to the new contract with no issue at all. From memory, I believe I had enough credit on there to more than cover the first monthly contract bill.

You can transfer the credit as long as its the same number moving to the new contract account.

We are shifting the PAYG telephone number onto the contract SIM.

It's only a few quid but then the contract is only a £10/month one

Packing note with the new SIM mentions http://www.orange.co.uk/activate

Enter the number written on the new SIM (not the telephone number; starts 8 and is next to the contacts/chip) and the telephone number of the old PAYG SIM.

Nearly done. For some reason the number was transferred but the bar was never lifted, a quick ring to Orange (points for not forcing me to ring an 08 number, so I could use bundled minutes on another contract) and the CS lady saw this was an error and lifted it there and then.

Whole process took 24h.

No idea if the credit was transferred this way, it was down to next to nothing by that point anyway.
