Inspired by the rather gloomy ''Most Shocking Death?'' Thread, I thought I could create something a little more positive.

So who in the Music world have cheated death, through one incident, or years of substance abuse?

Some obvious answers to get the ball rolling...

Keith Richards: How he's still going is beyond me. I read his Bio a while back, and it was just shocking. Stories like the Playboy Mansion Party are hilarious.

Ozzy Osbourne: Years of substance abuse, and then nearly killed himself... on a quad. Brialliant stuff.

A good one, actually.

I saw them last Christmas in Dublin. He was off the stage more than on it, and he kept falling over. It was funny and sad at the same time.

He was on Harry Hill at Christmas singing FONY. Most tragic thing I've ever seen, put an unintential downer on the whole show.

Anyway, my addition to the list - Amy Winehouse. Didn't she actually get told she was going to die at one point if she didn't stop? (which she did...a bit...)

She's really cleaned up her act apparentley. I hope she strides back in those heels one day. I love her two albums.

Me too, Back to Black is one of the albums of the decade IMO. I just hope that wasn't because of the drink/drugs and that she can stay so good without all of that

Considering that she seemed to be relatively clean on Frank, she should be fine.

That's actually just a puppet in the Insurance ad.
The real Iggy is beside him. He's the one that looks like rubber.

Not quite 'cheating death', but on the day of the 7th July bombings in London the westbound (I think) Edgware Road train hit a passing eastbound train. Gary Barlow (Take That) was on that eastbound train, He talks in his autobiography a little bit about what he saw and all the smells of it, and how he went home and cried; and he said he's hooked any time he hears anything about 7/7.

A few more...

Cheryl Cole, obviously, with that life-threatening malaria. What a brave girl.

Brian Harvey managed to run HIMSELF over a few years back by leaving his handbrake off but got away okay.

Chuck Berry appears to be cheating death pretty well - he's 85 years old and still doing world tours as if he was 30, amazing.

Haha, thank you. I never used to visit the music boards due to constant GaGa but I'm getting into them more these days

Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode actually died in 1996 - his heart stopped for two minutes before he was revived by paramedics.

Well what about Britney? I was worried something was going to happen to her during her breakdown.

Yeah, it was pretty worrying, but I never thought that could happen to her because her people keep such a close eye on her. As opposed to MJ, who was left to his own devices and actually did die, so yeah, I suppose you're right. But she's all better now.

Not really music, but I agree. :P

Brucie is one of those people, along with Nelson Mandela, Christopher Lee, and Margaret Thatcher, who will quite simply live forever.

I read Keith Richards book too.
He is a role model of mine- to put away so many drugs over the years and still be standing?

Marianne Faithfull is also lucky to still be with us.

Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees survived the Lewisham train crash in which 90 people were killed in 1957 when he was 8 years old.

The Four Tops, Alexander O'Neal and John Lydon (Johnny Rotten) were all booked onto Pan Am Flight 103 that exploded over Lockerbie but missed it due to oversleeping (the FTs), changes in recording a TV show (AO'N) and traffic delays on the way to the airport (JL).
