Which Humax Foxsat HDR for fringe areas?

Since the great news of C4HD arriving on freesat, I'm now after a Humax Foxsat HDR, but I need it for a fringe area, i.e. Spain.

Does anyone know if the internals (apart from the hard drive) are any different between the 320gb (released 2006) and the newer 500gb (released last year) - I'm guessing so.

More importantly does anyone know if the tuner and strength (sensitivity) is the same or different between these boxes - crucial in fringe areas.

I've ran many Sky boxes in Spain (currently running the Pace TDS850NB) and so know how crucial a strong sensitive tuner is.

Thanks in advance for any help / advice anyone has.

Apart from the hdd size they are all identical hardware.

If it's any help the hdr's tuners are considered amongst the most sensitive.

Loss of access to ftv transponders using a sky box with a card is more likely to make a significant difference.

Thanks for the fast response graham - It looks like I'll be getting the 500GB box then.

Just one last question, does the FOXSAT HDR run hot?

As well as several Sky boxes, I've also got a FOXSAT HD (no recorder) when they where first released years ago, but despite its small size I've always found it runs very hot - a general problem with humax boxes at the time I seem to remember.

Running hot? Not noticeably.

Last time I had a hdd in my hdr was Nov 2008, mine is external (1TB) and seperately powered so mine's as cool as a cucumber. In the month or so before I did the mod it ran much cooler than my Foxsat-HD which as you say makes a fair replacement for a toaster

Incidentally if the HD works where you are in Spain the HDR will (same tuners).

It looks like a sky cancellation and a Humax 500gb box are the order of the day - TV at least till the end of 2012 when the new spot beam Astra sat's go up / switch on, and everything is likely to go pear shaped for british satellite TV over here - oh well!!

You'll have a bit longer than that. It takes several months after launch to fully commission a satellite.
