My new TV is DNLA Ready and my son wants a reason to test his new supply of Cat6..
I have started to record in HD after more than ayear and the drives are filling up.. As to being a Leader..It costs.. Seemingly even Panasonic dropped off when they forecast incorrectly the Freeview Technical system that the UK were to use.. Stan |

If you mean the new Samsung from reading the thread in this forum it certainly is not anything like as versatile as the Foxsat.
I simply cannot accept that the Live Pause functionality still hasn't been fixed. So what, if it was a "design" decision - it's broken, pure and simple. |

Maybe not, but it would appear that it has less bugs!

I bought a PVR because I wanted a PVR, not because I wanted an iplayer or a media streamer. The fact that Humax have been incompetently failing to fix all the annoyances that affect the PVR as a PVR (together with their lollygagging approach to updates) is what has reduced their credibility in my eyes. When the time comes to replace my current box Humax will not be at the top of the list. Yet if they had had one of their bods spend just a few days sorting out the trivial UI niggles they almost certainly would have been. |

Just out of curiousity,what would be at the top of your list,Humax aside?I have been following the thread for the new Samsung S-7800,but apparently there seem to be issues with that too. |

What I should have said is that Humax would no longer be guaranteed a place at the top of the list which they would have been had they acted a little more professionally about some of the bugs and niggles with the current box. As to the 'issues' with the Samsung, we'll have to see how responsive they are when if comes to correcting these. You also have to beware of the Humax 'fanbois' who do tend to overplay problems on other manufacturer's devices. |

Well, I must admit that I'm assuming there will be a little more choice by the time I replace my box. I hope to get a couple of years more use out of it.

Thanks,I agree with you.I must also admit to having been a big fan of Humax in the past(but like to keep an open mind about other equipment)but I must agree they have been letting their customer base down for sometime now.
I don't dwell on the niggles when I'm actually using it. It's just that having been involved with UI design professionally over very many years the utter brainlessness* of some of the Humax UI quirks are infuriating and the fact that they would have been trivial to correct (and they've have three opportunities to do so) make it all the worse. * The missing 8x FF/FR is quite astounding because someone must have actually put real programming effort into doing that. |

Having bought the foxsat hdr a couple of months ago, I've been following the dialogue on the Samsung, and although there are one or two would-be-nice-to-have features, I'm happy enough to live with the Humax, it's a decent device. It's just so frustrating that they have no interest at all in looking after their customers and fixing a few of the headline niggles that I and many others here have found. And the sad thing is that that's probably the end of it, with the Samsung out, they'll probably be upping the effort to get a mk2 to market, and ignoring the mk1 totally. That said, how would we notice the difference?

How quickly the Samsung bugs are fixed will allow an informative comparison with the Humax (lack of) effort. |

The initial HDR release was so unstable that I eventually just turned it off. That issue was solved in the second (?) update and it has been stable since then.
How quickly the Samsung bugs are fixed will allow an informative comparison with the Humax (lack of) effort. Release Notes - Includes Improved Over The Air (OTA) download support. - Allows future Foxsat-HD and Foxsat-HDR OTA downloads to be broadcast simultaneously. - ITV HD recording improvements. - Resolved OAD failure when using 1 satellite feed. - Resolved listings on Customisable channels. The next change was to V11 which amongst a lot of changes added support for BBCi player, the first Freesat box to do so. |

Is it possible those who pre ordered got them earlier?
Again from memory I was around the mid 20's in the queue. If I remember correctly a few made it to high street retail outlets in time for Christmas, they did not last long when posters said so and so has some at xxxx. I still have the original 320GB drive, if I have time i will stick it in a cradle and look what the earliest recording is that remains on the drive. |

TBH I do not see that as a major omission given that there at least two other ways of achieving the same result for the user. I agree the UI, like all Humax kit is very rudimentary and seemingly not the work of an expert in the field. |

Without knowing the hardware architecture, the memory limitations and the ability of the programmers concerned that is a groundless statement.
The hardware architecture and the memory limitations are completely irrelevant to this aspect of its behaviour and the ability of the programmers is unlikely to be an issue since the incorrect behaviour is actually harder to achieve than the correct. This is what the function should look like: Code:
Function FFButton
Speed = Speed * 2
if ( Speed > 64 )
Speed = 1
End
Code:
Function FFButton
Speed = Speed * 2
if ( Speed = 8 )
Speed = 16
elseif ( Speed > 64 )
Speed = 1
End

It is, however, a piece of design stupidity which is made worse by the fact that someone had to go to some positive effort to make it do that. |
