I had a Steak Bake in Newcastle the other month - I couldn't eat it properly because it was so hot!

It's a VAT thing. You can sell a hot pasty or bake if it is only hot because it's been cooked and get away without paying VAT. If you heat it to be eaten hot it is vatable.

Is it Quiche Lorraine? And does it have onions in?

Greggs were much better when they were just a North Eastern chain. Now they are everywhere.

The biggest scandal when when Greggs "nationalised" their menus and stopped selling Northern delicacies such as their Stotties in NE shops. Thankfully there was a huge public uproar and they returned last year

There's Now Better than a Gregg's Ham & Pease Pudding Stottie!

As for quiche... I'm shocked. Greggs sell quiche? Quiche?!

Never knew that.

Yeah, hot food to takeaway has VAT on but cold doesn't. If it happens to be hot because it's just been cooked that's ok. Subway tried to get off tons of VAT by saying their meatball sub was only hot because it was toasted but lost.

My thoughts exactly re: quiche! That must be down south, though to be honest I thought Greggs was just a northern shop.

Oh and I really tried to be a proper geordie and like pease pudding but it didn't happen. Do love a good roast beef stottie though - alas not from Greggs. A steak bake does me fine

I love the fact that they sell pain au chocolat in the hot section, so the choc is slightly melting. Mmmm. You can't even get that in posh bakeries!

Its just a cheese one. No onions. It has a piece of tomato on the top. I usually take that off though

gregg-nant is funny but apparently Greggs food is actually lower in fat than other chains. Its a bit of a myth that their stuff is unhealthier

Their pasties, bakes and sausage rolls are all made with pastry, so how does this make it a myth that they are unhealthy? I think some mcdonalds burgers and subway sandwiches have less calories and fat than these greggs products.

Our local Greggs in Gateshead has been there for decades, when i was at school it had tables where you could sit down and have a cup of tea with your food (and smoke too!). Up until a few years ago they used to sell proper chicken and mushroom pies, much better than the bakes but they stopped selling them. Must admit though there's nothing better than 2 of their cheese pasties to go with home cooked chips & beans

I used to go to Greggs for a treat before going in to the cinema.

I'd either have a steak bake, a vegetable pasty, a chicken pasty or one of their fabulous cheese and coleslaw batons.

Fantastic food to fill me up and not be tempted to pay silly money for pringles or a bag of maltesers at the cinema.
