Do they sing the `If you write a love song, I don't want to hear one' bla bla bla.

That's a pleasant song.

Who seem to be struggling to make an impact
Perhaps the UK doesn't like country pop that much unless it's done by Adele or Country folk - Mumford & Sons

The song debuted at number 22 on the Irish Singles Chart, but failed to chart in the UK, selling 1,432 copies in it's first week.It was released on 4th March 2011

Don't no why I'm advertising it really if I'm doing that

Yes, that's the ones

They remind me of The Corrs. unlike some of the girl groups around today, they can actually sing...and well too. They are fantastic live.

Yeah they've already flopped. I'm afraid their country pop thing just isn't in fashion at the moment. If they aren't dropped soon, I expect they will go down the sexy image route complete with an electro pop sound.

Not so sure about that.I posted a thread that argued the opposite recently. The country folk sound definately is getting popular - mainly of the back of the West London scene - Mumford & sons / Laura Marling / Noah & the Whale.Eva Cassidy seems to selling quite alot of albums.Adele has alot of country pop on her latest album - not sure if they are the popular songs though.Paulo Nutini has alot of country influence stuff on his albums.Stuck Like Glue - Sugarland did reasonably well in the charts recently & album sold quite well.
Kings of Leon are vertially alt. country rock / pop.Bon Jovi - again alot of country pop / rock on their more recent albums.
On the other hand Taylor Swift & Lady Antebellum (albums actually 88 & 75 respectively in album charts at the moment, actually) have struggled to break through in the UK even though they seem to have alot of backing to achieve this - massive in US.

Overall it's a bit of a mixed message.I get the sense that the larger record labels are definately trying to push country elements onto the British public - they seem to be popping up every where at the moment.Alot of country artists are appearing on This Morning on the BBC - Secret Sisters recently. The (functioning) Major labels (Western bases) are all based in America now Sony, Universal, Warners (which is going through a process of being sold off actually).Country is massive in the US.Perhaps country is popular in a more deluted form than it is in America. The line-dancing craze in the UK wasn't that long ago, however - if you can remember that.

Don't think it will work in a girl group context in the UK though. It needs some form of intrumentation for it to work in the UK i.e. the odd banjo

Scratchy, you seem to have a very wide definition of 'country', lol. AFAICT there's only one vaguely country track on Adele's album. Surely the Mumfords are folk? Kings of Leon? Alt country? Funnily enough, the only 2 artists/bands in your post that really could be described as country (or country pop) Lady Antebellum and Swift) both do very poorly here, certainly compared to how they do in the US.

I saw them supporting Boyzone last month...thought they were quite dull and the songs weren't up to much.

Taken from Wiki
The album's sound is described as classic and contemporary roots and country music. The change in sound from her first album was the result of her bus driver playing contemporary Nashville music when she was touring the American South. Adele told Spin Magazine that "He listened to all this amazing country music and we'd rock out late at night, chain smoking and listening to Rascal Flatts" "It was really exciting for me because I never grew up around [that music]." wiki entry for Adele
Spin.com article
And the new record finds the singer ditching her Brit-flavored R&B in favor of classic and contemporary roots and country music.

"It's quite different from the first record," Adele tells SPIN.com. "I got really into [country singer and one-time Elvis Presley tourmate] Wanda Jackson, and it's sort of like I'm stronger with this record." Cut in studios in Malibu and London, Adele worked with some of pop's top producers and songwriters, including Rick Rubin, Paul Epworth, and OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder.

Adele adds that the country-flavored vibe of the new record was borne out of genuine love for the genre. She was introduced to contemporary Nashville music specifically from her bus driver while on tour in the South. "He listened to all this amazing country music and we'd rock out late at night, chain smoking and listening to Rascall Flatts," says Adele. "It was really exciting for me because I never grew up around [that music]."

Don't think you can argue with that - it's straight from the horses mouth so to speak
