Nokia N8 USB Help
I've recently got a Nokia N8 and it's my first smart phone but I'm having issues with the USB connectivity. Maybe I'm missing something obvious but I just can't get it to work.
Basically, it won't detect any USB device. I've tried direct from the N8 to PC cable and also a cable that USB devices can connect to so as there are 2 different types of cable, I don't think that's the issue. I've also tried connecting it on a PC, laptop and a notebook so none of those are the issue either. The only common device is the N8. When I first connected the N8 it tried to install something on my PC though it didn't actually do it. I could detect the N8 on my PC under My Computer although it doesn't show up now. On the N8 itself, no USB deviced register as connected and thus it doesn't charge by USB either. Am I missing a blatantly obvious step here or is the USB connectivity buggered? I've already had to return one N8 that wouldn't turn on after it had been switched off. Is this a crock too? |

You will need to download and install the Nokia OVI Suite, this will have the drivers needed to connect phone to pc.
Last time l had a Nokia it came on a CD with the phone. |

connecting the n8 to your computer should do something.
having ovi suite would be the best ting. but it should connect regardless. there are some settings in settings connectivity usb. i suppose you might have it in media mode or something. you can get ovi suite here: http://europe.nokia.com/support/down...okia-ovi-suite it may be a problem with your usb port though. |

Thanks for the help.
I've downloaded that but it still doesn't recognise anything. I'm guessing the USB port is indeed knackered as several different cables and devices in 3 different computers can't all fail. This will be the 3rd N8 in a week. Am I just unlucky and these are all from a bad batch or something or have I just chosen an awful phone? |

You must be unlucky - mine has never had any problems with USB (or anything really), similarly with friends & others I know with them.
Only found one "issue" with USB. The USB OTG will connect and recognise USB headphones, it just won't play sound through them. |
