SIM Only Deal with 3 Mobile - Will work with smartphones?
I have a SIM Only 12 month contract with 3 Mobile. Two questions:
1) Can I just buy any phone and stick my SIM card in it? Every phone I see in stores seems bound to a pay-monthly 24 month deals or PAYG SIMs. Where can I just buy a straight phone? 2) I understand 3's standard SIM only contract does not work with an iPhone. Will it work with other smartphones, e.g. from HTC and so on? My contract has 1GB Data, so it would work well with a smartphone. Thanks for any replies!!!

im on threes £15 a month sim only deal, and that works fione in my android phone, im only supposed to get 1GB of data per month, but thats now gone up to 2GB for no extra cost.
if you want to buy the phone outright you need to look for a sim free, or unlocked phone, a search fro Sim free phone on amazon, or the phone you want plus the words sim free should yeild results. |

Most of carphone warehouse stuff is unlocked. Ask them by email to make sure if choosing one.
You probably have to fork out the £10 PAYG to get a good subsidised price though. |

The iPhone 4 uses micro sims (literally exactly the sim as a normal sim, but cut down to about half the size), so a micro-sim is needed on an iPhone 4 - this does not apply to other iPhones (i.e. 3GS) where your normal sim works fine. 3 do offer 'iPhone sim only plans' which are simply plans that come with the micro sim. Bizarrely, the cheapest of their sim-only plans are not available on a micro sim. You can get around this pretty easily by cutting the normal sim card to size. There are templates on the net for free (just Google it) and it's pretty fool proof, so long as you take care not to cut the chip! Alternatively, 'sim cutters' can be bought on eBay for a few quid. |
