Do you believe JLO when .......
she says that she has never heard of any of Cheryl Cole's music? I know she hasn't ever released material in the States but surely American music stars and execs keep an eye on the lucrative British market, who's selling what etc. I think a single (FFTL) shifting about 250,000 in its first week on sale would surely attract some attention?

Why would Jennifer Lopez have heard of Cheryl's music? Its not her job to be on the eye out for foreign talent (well not outside of American Idol). I bet most American singers haven't heard of her music, they'll be too focused on their own work. Maybe if Cheryl had some producing, songwriting talent she may have been made aware of her as potentially someone who could bring something to her album.
And while FFTL may have sold a lot we have to remember that Cheryl was already a household name when she sold that much. It would have been a more impressive feat if she'd have come out of nowhere and sold that many of her debut single. |

"I don’t know much about her and I don’t know her music. But I would be happy to learn,” Most people in the US have never heard of Cheryl It was the same when David and Victoria Beckham first went to the US and the US media kept getting David's name wrong because they only knew who his wife was. Americans are only interested in what happens in America. |

A lot of the bigger stars will be aware of her because they'll be working in the UK and even appearing on X Factor. It's quite possible that J'Lo wouldn't know because until recently, her music career hasn't been - shall we say - active. And many popstars don't really know much about their business anyway, their "people" do.

All the US acts who do know about Cheryl cole is cos they've appeared on X Factor or have promoted heavily in the UK,
Jennifer hasn't done either recently so no it's not surprising. Cheryl cole is known mostly for her personal life than her music and most celebs avoid the gossip rags so are not clued in on her. It's not shocking really, most of US ain't heard of Cheryl |

Why would the US music industry - let alone the acts themselves - take notice of her success?
![]() They keep their eyes/ears on international markets incase there's a new sound (see; dubstep) to embrace or someone exceptional breaking through. Cheryl is a very typical popstar. If anything, she's a step backwards. Nothing about her success is interesting to anyone who isn't invested in her celebrity (i.e. Americans). |
