April 16th this year. Do any of you buy anything each year or go to the big openings rushing for those rare records and CDs? There is a few singles i want this year but since i've never been i don't know how quickly things will sell out or how much stores are likely to charge. Do they overcharge?

I am still trying to get hold of a few things from last years one.

They release nostalgic stuff, like albums on cassettes and such. It's a bit of fun and not all "old folks" stuff.

I still have a few blur 7" from last year, I wanted one and asked friends to look out and I ended up with about 9 in the end.

This year I want YM@6, Wild Beasts, Kate Bush, The Flaming Lips, Rush , My Chemical Romance & Manchester Orchestra - nothing too difficult this year

I got the Lady Gaga Born This Way 12" Picture Disc. I was unable to get the Jenny/Johnny/Gram Parsons/ Love Hurts 7" which is what i really wanted. Was thinking about getting the Michael Jackson and Red Hot Chili Peppers release but decided against it since i wasn't too keen on the tracks. Also everything was behind the counter so you couldn't really browse through everything and get a feel for what was there. They had boxes of stuff though. I've only just realised that Adele has released her album in 10" form. You can get the 12" version for only £10.99 in HMV but if i had seen that today or even known about it i would have asked.

I notice a lot of sites are waiting 7 days before they sell any releases from today. I wouldn't have minded picking up the 10" version of Adele's album and i will definately make sure i pick up the Love Hurts single somewhere.

Talking of Record Store Day, I read today that there are now 281 independent record shops in the UK, up from 269 in 2009. This upsurge is encouraging, as this bucks the trend of digital downloads taking over.

I wish record labels would start releasing vinyl singles again not just for the major artists but for some of the smaller ones too. I know HMV don't stock vinyl like they used to but it would be nice to be able to go out and buy my vinyl singles and albums in person rather than ordering online most of the time. There's no fun in sitting waiting on a postman. Even if they only supplied the independants with the records, i don't mind the travelling as long as i can get what i want. Sometimes i look at the choice of 7" singles and LPs today and it's terrible. I remember as little as 3 years ago you could go into HMV and have racks and racks of singles. I'd never leave the shop with nothing. Artists like The Ting Tings, Kate Nash, Damien Rice, Mika, The Killers, Amy MacDonald. Quality artists and always had singles out. Maybe it's the lack of decent artists around now.
