My Orange iPhone contract is up for renewal and I've just had a look online to see what they're offering me.

I had thought of just going straight for the iPhone 4 and using Mazuma Mobile to get rid of my 3GS and effectively bring down the cost, but I've been tempted to go Android.

I can get a free Samsung Galaxy S and 10% line rental discount for 18 months, which I really tempted by. But I'm wondering how much of a step up from an iPhone 3GS the Galaxy S is. Will it really be an upgrade, or just a change of scenery (so to speak)?

i imagine that it will be free on £35 p/m on a 24 month contract. You may be able to negotiate a better deal over the phone or if you change network you can get a better deal by going through quidco.

Alot of operators offer up to £150 cashback sometimes via there on top of your deal

I'm not keen on being tied down for 24 months. 18 is my absolute limit.

It does seem like there's a fair few new phones on their way, so I probably will just wait. However, I'm not wanting to pay through the nose for anything and I don't mind being a generation behind.

I am the same as you, 12 -> 18 months seemed like torture, 18 -> 24 even more!

Last week i upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy S (my upgrade was due in May but i called on the off chance) I pay £30 a month for 300 mins, unlimited texts and "capped" internet. I only paid £40 for the handset.

The phone is amazing! battery life is great when wifi is off. The screen is way better than the iphone4.

You may want to consider the HTC desire hd too,I personally have had both the iPhone 4 and the galaxy s and I have to to say that I prefer my HTC. The desire hd is very quick it has a very good screen resolution etc,the only down site is the internal memory only being 1.5 gig I believe however this can be overcome by using the aps2sd fatality.

Correct. Orange and Voda will have it first. On Voda it's free @ £40/month on Orange free @£35 over 24 months, nothing free over 18 months as yet. The £35 deal on Orange gives either 700 mins + 500mb or 600 minutes + 750mb.
