I keep getting Large beautiful PDF files in my email and hers is always seems to be the background music

Wondering if she still lived would she be popular as she was now and if you think like me she wouldn't

can you put your finger on why we have this anomaly with dead pop stars like painters their music sell better when their Brown bread than when their alive

My friend reckons eva is hop-along's little girl but I don't believe a word.. as Thin Lizzy once said

You know I've never heard a song that Eva Cassidy couldn't ruin

Couldn't disagree more...... Her voice is so powerful with fantastic pitch and tone...it is a tragedy that she was ignored by record labels at a time when pop was at it's height of popularity........both her and jeff bcukley were amazing vocalists that were greatly overlooked...but their timeless recordings prove to be successful post death...not out of sympathy...just music fashion timing....getting the acclaim they finally deserve.

I like her, one of the few good middle of the road singers.

She is truly awful.
Every song is a whining dirge like they actually recorded her death rattle and set it to music.
I like Terry Wogan but bringing her to the countries attention seriously damages my opinion of him.
I was best man at a wedding a few years back and they actually picked Songbird for their first dance.
They got a little hacked off when I refused to dance to it.

So shocked at people slagging her off!!? I remember hearing about her when her 1st album went to No.1! I thought she was all hype until I heard her singing, such a beautiful and warm voice, her Songbird album is so soft and makes me think of lost ones. The Somewhere album is also great, her voice couldn't ruin a song if it wanted to what a ridiculous comment! Sad she passed away! I hate this 'Middle of the road' comment people keep lumping artists into.

I don't "get" her. I don't find her music moving at all, although I will admit that she was a competent singer.

Her version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow actually annoys me. All the starting and stopping and over-emoting, it's not far away from Alexandra Burke.

If she wasn't Hovis I doubt very much if we'd ever have heard of her

Songbird is a fantastic album - I love her covers of Wade In The Water and 'If I Had A Golden Thread'

I thought i would by a CD of him on amazon saw one for 2 thought you cant go wrong for 2 if you hate it you can pass it on or worse use it as a tea mat . I passed it on they passed it on they passed it on they passed it on. No one in my circle small as it is likes what their hearing at all.

i was expecting a nice James Taylor Jackson Browne type songwriter boy i could not be more wrong I'm sorry to say Truly awful

The up side is thank god we all have diffrent tastes

some of you other people have missed my point. Im not for or against i just chose not to buy any of her albums.

But putting it in a simple language would you have heard of her if she had not have died? come on be honest with yourself for once in your life. There is nothing wrong with saying no BTW

I certainly prefer Eva's voice to the artist that is at number 1 in the UK.

She's nothing special IMO.

Zero success when she was alive, her tragic death is the sole reason she became known. Her version of Somwhere is very poor.

This is one of the stupidest posts I have ever read here, and that's saying something.

You know, the thing about Eva Cassidy is this...well......to be blunt....she just wasn't that good. There, I've said it. There's been a whole ghoulish cult built up about her and you're frowned upon if you say she's anything other than an amazing vocalist, destined for greatness, voice of an angel, etc. She was okay, but no more than that.

She was an extremely talented vocalist and acoustic guitar player, it's just a shame she wasn't acknowledged/appreciated by a wider audience when she was alive.

Yeah, it possibly was a shame but, then again, that's maybe because she wasn't anything special in the first place.

I think she is an amazing vocalist. Such an emotional singer and I don't think it's because she's dead. But I haven't heard any original compositions from her, so I'm not sure if songwriting is where she falls short...

Funny you should post this as I bought a Jeff Buckley CD album after Hallelujah was covered by Alexandra Burke. I hated it and have never played it again! Grace it is and Hallelujah was the only good track. He's massively overrated.
I do love Eva Cassidy though and have three of her CD's.

Jeff Buckley was incredibly gifted and I love Grace. Last Goodbye, Eternal Life and Mojo Pin are my personal favourites.

Without wishing to sound disrespectful, going from Alexandra Burke's Hallelujah cover(yes, I know Leonard Cohen did it originally) or expecting him to be like James Taylor or Jackson Browne is hardly a solid foundation on which to explore his music. His music is quite complex and not for everyone.

We've gone kind of off track here, but Alexandra Burkes version of Hallelujah is beyond redemption. Less emotion than an average episode of The Sooty Show.

I think she was a very talented lady. Yes, Terry Wogan brought her name to the fore, and the public bought her first album in large numbers. She is still selling after all this time, and that can only mean she means a lot to a lot of people, me included.
