The top 9 theme is the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame apparently, will get thinking re: song choices!

should be interesting, I hope they pick some new tunes and not stuff we've heard on previous shows.

So do I. Looks like Pia really will be doing River Deep then, it's on the list

Liking Everybody Needs Somebody To Love for Stefano, if it's the Blues Brothers song. Alternatively, he could do I Want You Back by the Jackson 5, because I do want him back on the show for a good while yet, and I love his higher register. He should be uptempo and memorable this week.

The Beach Boys' God Only Knows for James? Originally looked at it for Stefano but he's gotta speed it up this week, while James has gotta slow it down. (No, I'm not suggesting a Bucks Fizz gtheme lol)

Could Elvis loving Scotty go uptempo this week, with Jailhouse Rock?

How about Respect for Lauren? She's quite feisty and could do with a real vocal challenge, it'd be very different to her performance this week!

Perhaps James could do Space Oddity, or if he's allowed, my XF audition song, White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane!

There's even a Gary Glitter song on the list! Paul could do that, not insinuating anything about him but I want him out lol. Alternatively, how about You Really Got Me by The Kinks for him?

If James goes anywhere near a Bowie track, I will fly over to America and throttle him.

Anyone who could do it would be OK doing a Gary Glitter song on AI. Only a tiny amount of the American public is aware of events in Gary Glitter's life after his recording career ended and his songs are often used on American film soundtracks even now. The song that was originally mooted as being Adam Lambert's debut single, Strut (co-written by Adam and Kara) was liked by American critics for sounding like "something Gary Glitter would do".

That's strange, couldn't imagine anyone getting away with doing Gary on XF.

I like James, that's why I picked that song, which I also like, for him lol

Although disturbingly, apparently my old Special Needs college got some of the most severely learning disabled students to sing Do You Wanna Be In My Gang? once!

How about my Motown suggestion of Reach Out, I'll Be There for Jacob, and Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow? for Haley?

Still thinking for Casey, there are probably other interesting ideas for everyone anyway.

Ah, perhaps Casey could try something completely random/unexpected such as Like A Virgin, just so we can check out his skills of interpretation?

Do they have to choose from those songs or can they pick any song from the inductees?
Faria262

Not sure, but I'm pretty sure everyone sang 2 songs from that list the last time this theme was used, by the Top 4 of Season 7

There isn't time for two songs each with nine contestants.

I can really imagine Haley doing a Janis Joplin song this week

Jeff Beck is working with them this week and Will.I.Am will also be helping them out with their song choices.

Paul tweeted this about his song choice, saying: 'I feel good about my song this week. I get to be me. Should be fun.'

So, I don't think we'll hear anything too out there from Paul, but something nearer to what he likes, such as when he sang Ryan Adams' 'Come Pick Me Up', or similar folk rock/roots rock etc., if he has found something on the list like that.

I wonder if Scotty will sing an Elvis or Johnny Cash song?

I could see Haley singing something from Blondie.

My fav Elvis song on that list is Suspicious Minds, but I think the key will be too high for Scotty But I hope he does Elvis rather than the easier option of Johnny Cash

We all know Pia is doing River Deep Mountain High .....

For Casey, The Police jumps out for me, Every Breath You Take. I can imagin him doing that with the dbl Bass

'Suspicious Minds' is one of my favourites too.
Scotty sang 'The River 'really well and that's in a similar register to what 'Suspicious Minds' is. I think he could manage it quite well.

I know, I just meant that every song performed on the live show the last time this theme was used was from that list

An extra-long show would be fun though!

You're welcome Skyrah, re: the list!

Also, if any contestant wishes to change the key of a song to fit them better, that's fine

Awww it would be rock n roll hall of fame, it can't just be rock.

I pictured in my mind Pia doing something like Meredith Brooks 'B*tch'.
Now that I would love to see.

The R&R Hall of Fame covers every contemporary music genre. There are Halls of Fame in other more specialist genres, e.g. Country. You're right not everyone would suit rock but they had a rock week in top 4 two years ago and they've had two rock weeks in XF where they've stretched the boundaries of rock beyond all recognition.

The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame theme gives them a huge catalogue to chose from with excellent songs that are far from all hard rock. There should be something fro everyone, as long as the producers gives them a list of more than 20 worn out songs including 15 unsuitable picks.

The Elton John performances were overall pretty good, so I am looking forward to the next show.

Well, something like that would be another unpredictable choice by/for James, wouldn't it?

I don't think Scotty has the range for a Roy Orbison song. He would sound great on the low sections but the high notes on most of Orbison's songs are beyond all but a few others.

I think LWTUA would be a good one for Scotty. Low register and it would take him away, if only for a week (hopefully), from the Country genre.

Dream On will forever bring back memories of Danny Gokey's epic performance in rock week two years ago.

Season 7 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame picks on top 4:

David Cook "Hungry Like the Wolf" (Duran Duran)
Syesha Mercado "Proud Mary" (Creedence Clearwater Revival)
Jason Castro "I Shot the Sheriff" (Bob Marley)
David Archuleta "Stand by Me" (Ben E. King)
David Cook "Baba O'Riley" (The Who)
Syesha Mercado "A Change Is Gonna Come" (Sam Cooke)
Jason Castro "Mr. Tambourine Man" (Bob Dylan)
David Archuleta "Love Me Tender" (Elvis Presley)

I could see Scotty doing "Love Me Tender" , Casey "Mr. Tambourine Man", James "Hungry Like the Wolf", Stephano "A Change Is Gonna Come", Paul "I Shot the Sheriff", and Lauren "Proud Mary", but I hope not because it would be soo predictable.
May be Haley could do an interesting "Baba O'Riley" though.

I know, it's just that meglos was disappointed it's not going to be a pure rock theme. I reckon that's because some of the contestants may struggle with a pure rock theme - perhaps not the contestants that TPTB most want rid of?
