Jefff Beck has had to cancel his appearance on the show due to illness, and Lindsay Buckingham was on standby to take his place but has also now cancelled.

Shame, as Jeff was due to play guitar with the Idols. Ryan Tedder will be a guest mentor though.

Illness or is that a convenient excuse because of the tweets several people associated with Idol have been getting?

Oh I dunno, this is what Nigel said on Ryan's radio show this morning. I'm assuming the tweets weren't very favourable then?

I'm assuming you (Motorbiking) are referring to the tweets suggesting that the choice of mentors (when there had been a decision taken at the start of the series to have regular mentors ............................ mind you there had also apparently been a decision to not have themes) were designed to favour a particular contestant. I saw some of them addressed to Nigel, Ryan and Randy.

which ones are the mentors - the producers etc that work with them? and what were the tweets about?

Yes, the regular mentors are the producers, etc, who work with them every week (they haven't done this on Idol before). The several tweets I saw were suggesting that the planned choice of guest mentors this week was designed to favour James.
