I am struggling to get an HTC Desire working with 3 Data. The SIM card works fine in another phone and I have followed the following instructions from the Desire manual but to no no avail, I just get no Mobile Network -

"Using a data connection
It’s simple. When you turn your phone on for the first time (with the SIM card inserted), it should connect automatically to your mobile operator’s data service.
If you don’t get a connection automatically, there are two things to try.
 Check that the data connection is turned on. It may just be that your data connection isn’t turned
on. To check whether it is on: 1. On the Home screen, press MENU, and then tap
Settings. . Tap Wireless & networks, and select the Mobile
network check box to turn your connection on.  Check that the right mobile network is selected.
1. On the Home screen, press MENU, and then tap Settings.
. Tap Wireless & networks > Mobile network settings > Network operators or Access Point Names."

1. Obvious question but are you sure the phone is unlocked?
2. You are getting a 3 signal in the area
3. You might need to manually enter APN details for the three network on the phone.

1. Yes, voice calls are fine
2. I've just moved the SIM into an iPhone 3GS at the same locatrion and it works fine.
3. What are the manual settings ?

I can't see how to set it. When I go into mobile network settings there is an option "Access Point Names" but when I select that I get a blank screen.

On the blank screen press menu and it will give you the option to add a new one in there.

If it's blank that means you have no APN set, which is why your data is not working.
