I have a Blackberry Curve 8520 and whilst trying to download an app called Foursquare, I now have a message up on the screen saying:

'The application FourSquare has attempted to open a connection to a location inside the firewall and outside the firewall which is not allowed by your IT policy'

I clicked 'OK' which is the only thing I can do but nothing, the message will not go away. Done two battery pulls and the message is still there and refusing to move.

I have tried to look at Blackberry forums for help but nothing makes sense and I obvs cannot do anything from my phone with that on the screen i.e. delete said application

Can anyone help??

I have just synced my BB to my laptop and have tried to delete the Foursquare app on there, it's taking forever but fingers crossed. At least it is coming up on my BB that something is in progress so that's a good sign

The message refers to an IT Policy. Normally, a restrictive IT policy is applied to a Blackberry by a workplace Enterprise server. Has this phone ever been used for workplace exchange e-mail?

Formatting your Blackberry won't get rid of the policy - you have to either replace it with another policy, or use a third-party application to erase it.

I had this problem with my Blackberry Storm. It had been used as an Enterprise client and had a policy applied to it that stopped you doing just about anything. It was a sod to remove - but I was able to do so by using an app called JL Commander.
