I'm currently on 3, and am looking at moving to Orange as the signal round my area on 3 is pretty poor.

In the past when i've ported my number the network opearator have always taken the day I use my PAC as being the start of my 30 day notice.

However, 3 are telling me this isnt the case, and that I should cancel my contract when I phone up for my PAC.

Is this the case?

In my experience using a PAC code gets around having to give 30 days notice.

It would be very unfair if it worked the way you say as you would be forced to pay for a months usage on a dead account. Are you sure that in the past you didn't just port when you still had a few weeks of your minimum term remaining?

No, you are correct in your understanding of the process. You do not have to request contract termination when requesting a PAC.

You are not even under any obligation to use a PAC you request. They are valid for 30 days and a new one can be issued on request if you choose not to port your number during that time.

edit: As markrduk says above, I think they are just trying to get an extra month's money out of you by saying the account is already under notice and therefore cannot be instantly closed when the number is moved.

Sorry I edited my post slightly before your reply appeared because I misread the OP's post.

All I can suggest is that you don't ask anyone on here for advice on which phone to choose... unless you want to spark another Android vs iPhone debate!

Actually, you should ask... just please don't be put off by the odd idiot who will inevitably try and tell you that you would be a fool to buy any other phone but the one they recommend. There are plenty of people on here that are genuinely helpful

Sorry to highjack the thread but: i am leaving 02 and going to 3 as i have been attracted by their one plan and "all you can eat data".

I requested my PAC code from 02 on Tuesday and it arrived via text a couple of hours later. I called three and provided them with the code and the transfer is scheduled for today. Is their a time they generally do the transfers?

I only ask as i have both phones with me in work today and carrying both is driving me mad!

Edit: Actually scrap that. Just had the text from three and the transfer has happened.

Sorry to hijack the thread as well.... Mine was done about 8 this morning as well. Requested my PAC from o2 on Tuesday the first time, was told it would be sent to me as a text within 24 hours, nothing was received so rang them again yesterday and they gave the PAC over the phone, this was about 1pm, rang 3 straight away and the transfer happened at about 8:15
Not bad really for a number port, first time I have had it done within 24 hours.
