Anyone else excited about this phone? I'm joining Vodafone when my Orange contract runs out next month and cannot wait to order this phone.
I've heard its not out until May 6th though, damn!
Looks and sounds brill!

I considered it, but at a reported ~£600 for the PAYG model, I decided to save myself £200 and get an Incredible S instead.

I'm sure this will be an impressive device, but I couldn't possibly justify spending that much on a mobile phone, regardless of quality.

I don't know who these people are, but you wont get the phone until May regardless.

The Galaxy S II does look like a nice phone, definitely top, top end. I'd wait until the HTC announcement next Tuesday though, it's either going to be the Desire HD 2 with dual-core 1.2Ghz processor and 1GB RAM, or the UK release date for the EVO 3D. Either way, it looks like they'll be announcing my next phone!

I was going to wait for the Galaxy S 2 but i didn't want yo pay £35+ a month to get this phone free, also It was a bit to big for me, so went for Galaxy Ace and got it free for £20 a month for 300 minutes, 300 texts and internet as an upgrade from

Im looking for a new phone too but as soon as I find one that Im happy with theres talk of a new release from another manufacturer! I know this summer is going to be particularly busy so I think I might just wait til September (so that all of the above plus the iPhone 5 have had a chance to impress) and then pick my winner.

Word is the next iPhone isn't being released until the Autumn anyway, so if you're waiting to see if there's any reason not to get it you'll be waiting a bit longer it seems.

Yes I heard that too. Hopefully by September most things will be out though. Even though this is obviously an ongoing never ending continuous process of releases.

Ye, the size of the phone is the one thing thats putting me off it, but it's not enough to stop me from getting it! I'll have to wait and see which contracts they offer with it though. I don't really want to pay over £30 a month so I'm not holding my breath!!
Maybe I'll see what the HTC announcement is aswell, they're a good make of phone. Very up-and-coming!!

Just read that the Galaxy S2 CPU has been updated to 1.2GHz. This phone will be a beast! I think this will rival the new HTC dual core phone which allegedly has the same and is going to be announced next Tuesday

The SGS2 does look like a good phone. It will certainly have the potential to be the best phone on the market. It depends a lot of how good TouchWiz 4.0 is. If it is half decent this phone is going to be winner. How big a winner? will depend on quickly other manufacturers can get their dual core phone in the shops.

For me, since I have recently bought my Desire HD off contract...buying another phone is not really an option at the moment.

Don't know if anyone read, but it looks like either the release of the Galaxy S 2 will be put back or there will be few models available on release. Its odd to think that it's mean to be released in the next 3 weeks but there still isn't a 100% set date.

Well as far as I know, the original plan was to use Samsung's own Orion SOC, then they decided they also wanted to use the Tegra 2, so there are going to be two flavours of Galaxy S II which should offer comparable performance. The Tegra 2 flavour was always going to come out in the summer, which still seems to be the case. Samsung are denying the Orion variant is delayed, and stating it will see release by the end of the month in some territories. They're not saying which territories, so I can't give you much more than that.

End of April is the best bet so far, although the phone is selling extremely well on pre-order at the moment - it's actually been the best seller on my site for nearly a week. First time that's happened for a pre-order

For what it's worth the Optimus 2x is shipping as of now, free on £25/month with 600 mins + data compared to £35 for the S2

I don't know whether to wait for this phone or go for the lg optimus x2 or the sony ericcson arc, i must say i do like the look of the arc and have read it has a really good camera, it is also 100 quid cheaper than this phone.

I have also read on other forums that the high performance processors of the lg and the s2 are not really needed in mobile phones at the moment.

What would you need such high processor speeds for?

This was my thinking too, actually. I was ready to wait for the S II (I didn't fancy the look of the LG phone in the end), but then I started questioning whether I need a dual core processor in my phone. Around the same time, funlovingirl pondered the same thing, and after that discussion I kind of became less bothered about having one. Then the Xperia Arc started catching my eye a lot more, and here I am a few weeks later with one in my hand - and pleased with my decision.

Maybe when dual-core becomes the 'norm', like it is with computers nowadays, it'll be worth having one - but for now, my phone keeps up with pretty much anything I throw at it - why would I pay £100-150 more for more power I don't need?

Thats a fair point. My laptop doesn't have a dual core processor, so does my phone need to. I'm interested to know how you're getting on with the Arc. I'm looking at one of those myself too.

I was in the same boat, in fact I created a thread a while back questing the need for dual core phones right now.

Was waiting on the Galaxy S2 but then with the delays and my doubts over the need for a faster phone I ended up just getting a Nexus S. Maybe in a year or two we will see the need for it, apps and games may be more common then which take advantage of it. But right now in my view it's not worth the extra expense.

What normally happens is that the hardware is released first. Then after a while software is released to take advantage of the hardware. Buying a dual core phone today, wont really give you any benefit today. Give it a few months, and apps, roms will be released to take advantage of both cores. Thus resulting in faster apps. What will make quite a bit of difference is roms that are written (ground up) for dual core processors.

The down side is that you will get lazy coders, who wont optimise their code, as the code now runs on faster processors, with more ram etc.

Taken from the blog on Clove website:

Due to all this confusion we spoke to Samsung UK who have confirmed the following – UK stock is to be available for sale on 1st May and not before. This confirms that UK stockists, including ourselves will not have stock before the 1st May. We will not be selling them in April, it will be 1st May – but not June as some rumours suggest.

There is also question over exactly which model of processor and screen will come with the device. To date we understand this to be the Exynos chip and a Super AMOLED Plus screen. We will however confirm the final specification before shipping.

UPDATE: For those observant followers – May 1st is a Sunday and May 2nd is a bank holiday so first stock will actually dispatch on the 3rd! However the stock will be ready for this. Samsung UK have set the launch date as the 1st May.
4 weeks away from release! Hopefully!

May 3rd! Not too long to wait now then! Thanks for that, really helpful.
Presumably, it will be available for pre-order nearer the time anyway? Getting very excited about this phone now!

Much of a muchness really. Depending on which benchmark you look at they'll both be within 2-3% of each other, trading places at the top of the chart.

Which software works best with it?
Possibly Tegra, it having longevity and wider support.

The final choice between the S2 and the X2 may well be the display screen preference.

Will the advent of dual core processors in mobiles further impede on battery life, or will it have little effect?
