out of all the htc phones, which is the most top end? Also, if you have one are you pleased with it?

Apparently it is the desire, not the hd due to it's poorer battery life

Battery life isnt as bad as its made out. In fact i can get through the whole day texting, calling and on the net and still have some spare when i get home.

I am biased since I have only used the Incredible S so my vote would go to that.

Excellent device and battery life is better than the Desire HD according to reports I've read.

The hardware on the Desire HD is better than the Incredible S after all the Desire HD is still HTC's flagship phone.

Battery life will get better when Gingerbread comes out later this month. I run a leaked Gingerbread 2.3.3 on my Desire HD and battery life is perfectly fine.

Definitely not the Desire Z.

Comparison of the two phones on gsmarena.com shows they are very similar, main differences are that the Incredible S is slightly smaller, has a better screen (S-LCD rather than TFT), is some 30g lighter and has more battery capacity.

It is also a newer phone than the Desire HD.

The Desire HD has an S-LCD. Not a TFT.

Battery between the 2 on gingerbread isnt that much and to be honest doesnt matter if the phone is newer, the desire hd is still the flagship phone.

EDIT:- in fact, not sure which screen the DHD uses. Conflicting info all over the place although some say the newer DHD's have SLCD.

Not the Incredible S at the moment anyway. My handset reboots randomly, and it seems other people have suffered the same problem as well. Hope a future software update will sort this out.

Well what makes it the flagship phone? It's no good just saying it is, there has to be some aspect about it that's better than the rest. The only thing I can see is it's screen is 4.3" rather than 4.0" plus all the things I mentioned previously.

Tbh, having an HD7 with the same screen, I could sacrifice the 0.3 inches for better battery life and a lighter phone.

Correction, the Desire HD is TFT.

Source?

I just phoned HTC for an unrelated matter (sim card cover not fitting correctly) and they told me the later models have SLCD's.

I guess the flagship phone will be the one with the best specs. Minus battery life but as ive said already twice, running a leaked GB 2.3.3 the battery life is hugely better.

Personally i would say the top 3 phones just now in no order are the Incredible S, HD7 and the Desire HD.

Any one of these the OP will be thoroughly pleased with.

Is the ordinary Wildfire a definite no no then?

What is it like for the internet?

The Desire is the best top end phone and the Wildfire the best entry smartphone.

HTC never got the balance quite right with the others.

Although not everyone's cup of tea, I still have not found a phone that offers enough new features/speed to replace my 18 month old HD2. It it still regarded as one of the most mod friendly phones ever made. I currently dual boot Winmo and Android 2.2, but it will run everything from Win 95 & Ubuntu to Windows Phone 7 and every version of Android.

I have as a first smartphone an HTC desire, cannot compare but I absolutely love it as do my I-phone friends

I've spent the past hour comparing the Desires as i think it's time i went from 'distant observer' to 'noob' with a smartphone, and i can't see why anybody would look past the original Desire which has great specs and you can get for a great deal now. I don't know if it's worth paying the extra £15 a month for Desire HD tbh.

It isn't for me anyway.

HTC Sensation looks quite awesome and only these newest phones will get HTC Sense 3.0

HTC have kind of said it will be put on some other devices but they didn't say what.

However they then said that no other phones apart from the sensation, evo4g and some other phone could have it but others like the DHD couldnt due to hardware needs.

Now, some boffins over at XDA have ported it to the Desire HD and it runs beautifully on the single core 1ghz. I flashed it earlier just for something to do lol Some things aren't working like camera and the resolution is out slightly but it shows HTC are talking crap in regards to the hardware needs.

I've had a lot of smart phones, last few have been Android phones (G1, Hero, Wildfire and Desire). I go through phones like a tramp on chips, I love my Desire and so far is the best phone I've owned, apart from my first mobile, all those years ago (Alcatel 815+, just in case you wanted to know).

I adore the Android OS, blows Apple's iPhone OS out the water when it comes to functionality and personalisation, only thing Apple have over Android is it has a more polished look about it, but you can keep that! Obviously everyone is different and want different things from their mobiles, I guess you'll just have to try them all out until you find the right one for you.

Think I'll possibly go for HTC Sensation or Motorola Atrix next, probs the HTC as Motorola are pants at customer support and updating OS (just read their Facebook page, lots of complaints)

Oh I'm sure it's possible but obviously HTC want to sell new phones so need to make the old ones obsolete. Average Joe is just going to go and buy a new phone, he isn't going to bother with flashing ROMs etc.
