I wouldn't touch the Acer with a barge pole, their laptop battery life are badly calibrated when compared to other manufacturers & putting an AMD in it, is a big mistake imho, as AMD processors are very cheaply made & are often overclocked to such an extent that they overheat easily.
I have built and owned many AMD powered computers and never had any issues with them. They are no less reliable than Intel and built just as well. Intel and AMD dominate the world's CPU market for a reason. |

Well, I've had the Eee Pad for just over a week now and I totally agree with the above comment. I don't think it's so much "Honeycomb" but rather the Apps, here's what I've experienced:
Note: The apps I used for the below comments are the ones supplied with the device... it's possible I could remove these issues by downloading 3rd party apps. Music: Doesn't display Album Art correctly - you just get a place-holder image instead of the album cover image. In order to get it working you have to rename the albums folder where the MP3's are (using file manager), open the music app, close it, rename the folder back to the original name (optional, if you want to keep the renamed name) and then album art should work. You may also need to reboot the Pad. File Manager: Crashes all the time - simple tasks like renaming folders, copying and pasting will crash it. Guaranteed. Android Market: After you have 10 Apps installed, all further apps you install seem to end up in the "Not Installed" section of "My Apps". This means that they cannot be removed or managed because the Market "thinks" they're not installed. To remove the apps you have to do it via the Android Settings > Applications > Manage Apps and then reboot the Pad to remove from the Not Installed section of the Market. The Asus@Vibe, MyLibrary and MyNet apps aren't finished yet. You can't do anything other than read the default book (Alice in Wonderland) in MyLibrary. The only language MyNet seems to be available in is Portuguese and when viewing content on the Pad it just displays it in one long list but when connected via DLNA to the PC it displays content by putting it in various categories (i.e. music by Genre, Album name, Artist etc). The Browser crashes every so often and YouTube has crashed on me but I don't really use YouTube so I don't know if that's a regularly thing or not. After all that's said above though, Apps/Games that I have downloaded from the Market all seem to be fine. You do get the odd app that isn't Tablet friendly and shows in a tiny window in the corner of the screen. I'm guessing that would probably be the same for any Tablet though? I think the crashing is just really very poor testing by Asus on their apps. I'm sure they'll be an update soon to fix all these issues. Until then I will probably just use 3rd Party alternatives. The Eee Pad is still a great piece of kit however, and if you're considering getting one I definitely would recommend it but just be prepared for some crashes until an update is released. |

Saw the Asus in PC world today, surprised to see that it is more plastic in construction and that it was £449 as opposed to Comet's £379... THE Advent Vega felt superb, and I was impressed by how good it felt.

That extra £70 will be to pay the staff member to try to sell you unwanted accessories, anti virus software and a travel case.

Of course! Yes £70 difference online between the with/without keyboard options.
Could be the plastic is a weighted mock-up like phone shops display? Then again the Xoom looks very plastic but is cold metal. |

Yet it does not arrive in the UK until June. Though £379 is the price without the Dock.

Maybe that's when the next batch is due in then.
Some are reporting it quickly sold out in the UK, though of course it is easy to sell out when supplies are limited. Amazon now claim a release date of 1st June so maybe they missed out on the first batch. |

I heard that it quickly sold out too. And that some tweaks have been made to the next batch.. We can only wait and see.. I think my first tablet could be the Advent Vega. Will suit me for now. |

Comet have been shipping it for awhile, but there seem to be some issues with bugs, so I have read.. The PC world price may be wrong then as it was the tablet on it's own!

Went and checked it out yesterday, seemed like a great piece of kit and I was almost convinced to buy one, till I realised no 3g
![]() On checking since getting home it seems the 3g version wont be released till Q3 dont think i can be bothered wait that long so will see what else comes out over the next month or so. ![]() I am looking at buying this as an alternative to the iPad, and just wondered what the benefit of 3G was. I will only be connecting to the internet via wi-fi. Thank you

The 3g version will have a sim slot, so that you will be able to put in either a contract / payg with data allowance & be able to use the tablet when you are say on a train with no wifi hotspots.

Of course if you have a phone that allows tethering (Android phones, JBd iPhone etc) you can use the phone's 3G network and save a bit on the tablet.

If you haven't got a Android phone or other device that allows tethering (sharing your 3G) connection, then because of the issues with 3G dongles on Android, a MIFI unit is recommended for on the move internet access & these come at a cost of £70. However if you do have a phone which allows tethering & are on a plan which has a decent data allowance, then you don't need the MIFI unit. What I guess I am trying to say is that if you want a really good tablet without USB function, then the Transformer is a beautiful piece of kit & one of the better Honeycomb tablets out there at the moment esp at £380. However if you require all the bells & whistles, like USB ports, MIFI etc, then you are looking at splashing out at least £500.

Thanks for that. I already have a desktop (6 months old), a laptop that will need replacing soon, and an iPod touch (the lastest one).
I mainly need tablet for general surfing, and to play games on FB ![]() If the iPad had flash, I would have gone for that. But it doesn't

Well, it _is_ pretty, it gives iPad run for its money. And it has flash, which is an advantage for such a big screen. If I needed erm wanted tablet, I'd go for something like this.

They also, at least they used to, manufacturer the Macbook for Apple.
This also gave them the quality tag.

I was fixing the garage roof at the weekend and spotted this magazine at the top of a pile: http://www.pixel-bank.co.uk/members/..._8167349_o.jpg It's the 14th October 1993 edition of PC News Weekly, with an exclusive look at the Compaq Concerto. Quote:
Is this a gimmick or the future of notebook PCs?
Price: £1,995 !!
