Does the website need to be mobile friendly or does the phone's browser just convert the web page to mobile form?

I've never used the internet on my phone so I'm just wondering what to expect.

Thanks.

Depends on your phone. Smartphones such as the iPhone or an Android phone will render whole webpages very well and the sites remain usable. Other phones sometimes will also render full websites but some may need another browser like opera mini to work well

A lot of sites do have mobile versions which are cut down in terms of graphics and interface to make them easier to load and navigate using your phone. Any decent site should have a toggle to allow you to switch between the mobile and PC versions

So you have an internet ready phone now? Just turn it on and have a look should answer your question.

It really depends on screen resolution and to some extent the screen size.

On my Pulse Mini it's a pain with the main culprit being the 320 by 240 screen resolution.
The San Francisco is superb, although the 3.5" screen is too small for its high resolution screen.
The 4 or 4.2 inches size would certainly be better for internet.

There are also factors such as what resolution they were uploaded/shared as. So cannot directly compare.

I'm not sure what's going on re my BlackBerry.......when I try to access DS the text is tiny & I have to keep zooming in to read it, it isn't easy either to navigate to different threads either. It's fine on FB as I mentioned earlier. All seems a tad odd.

Exactly the same here on my BlackBerry!

I'm not too concerned tho - some of the drivel on here (DS) sometimes isn't worth reading anyway

Unless the phone has 3G or is WIFI enabled, basic mobile browsing is awful.

It takes minutes for a page to load and when it does, unless the site is specifically optimised for mobile browsing (in other words, content is listed simplistically) just moving from one side of the webpage to the other takes minutes.
