No mention of Edam? I suppose it's rather fallen out of favour these days, when I was growing up it was seriously popular.

I have a very good cheese shop I walk past everyday on the way to work (hence my expanding girth) and they are always giving me free tasters of this and that. Stinking Bishop is lovely and I'm a complete convert to Manchego, prefereably with a good quince cheese. If you are ever in Greenwich do check it out.

I like Monterey J too. Used to get it at Sainsbury's cheese counter but the one where we live doesn't sell it.

Caerphilly.

Tastier and more crumbly than Wensleydale, done to death by Wallace and Gromit. Great for toasting, & with an apple.

An odd poll, the first two are chedders, the next two very different types of cheese both from each other and chedder. you don't mention what type of supermarket cheese, and as for 'other' well that covers the other few hundred or so!

Of the ones listed I'd say Cathedral City, but the favourite English cheese is Cotherstone. Where are all the goats cheeses, bries, stiltons and the other famous cheese. Also, how on earth can you consider Philadelphia as cheese when it's just semi-set wallpaper paste?

I buy cheese by type, not by brandname.

Favourites are Stilton, Un-pasteurised Camembert, and Stichelton (Un-pasteurised stilton).

Cheddar is mostly for cooking.

I keep coming back to this thread for the pleasure of reading cheese names.

Yorkshire Blue. Baer's camembert with truffle butter and Linconshire Poacher for a hard cheese.

If you like Cambozola you'll love Yorkshire Blue. Baer's is only made for Waitrose.

The important thing with cheese is to remove it from the fridge a couple of hours before eating.

GOOD Cheddar that is strong yet retains flavour is my favourite, I also enjoy Stilton and blue Brie. These are my everyday cheese and enjoy others at different times.

It's quite mild for a blue so good for an intro. Also, it's an orange blue, if you get me

Red Leicester every time. But the polls is more about brand,s and I never by the branded cheese like catherdral City, tend to go for a type of cheese rhather than a brand name cheese.
