Can you recommend some European comics...
...I'm a long-time comic-book reader but my reading has always been confined to British or American comics. I've always been a superhero comics man.
I'm thinking I should dabble my toe in the waters of European comics. Can anyone recommend some titles? They'll have to be translated into English (I'm purely anglophone) and available to buy online. Any topic or subject area will be considered. Over to you... |

Off the top of my head...
Anything by Moebius; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Giraud and XIII: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XIII_%28comics%29 XIII was being reprinted by Marvel a few years back but they only did one volume. Since then someone else has taken begun to reprint them, they're available on Amazon anyway. |

Cinebook are bringing out lots of interesting stuff. I'm really enjoying Valerian and Laureline at the moment, although I'm reading the French versions.

I seem to be answering my own question - but just in case anyone else has a similar hankering for European-flavoured four-coloured fun, the following may be useful.
Doing my research I chanced upon www.cinebook.com They're a Belgian publisher (I think) and they're beginning to churn out a lot of English translations of European stuff. Might be worth a look if you're interested. |

No worries!
Black Coat Press / Hexagon Comics have also been publishing some interesting stuff - superhero comics with a European sensibility - though it's black and white and in paperback. Books like Homicron and Starlock. |

As a Tintin fan, I'm also interested in giving their "Blake and Mortimer" and "Yoko Tsuno" series a look (both series were done by Herge's co-artists). |

I finished the marvellous "Robertsonville Prison" comic last week. The first in
Cinebook's translations of "The Bluecoats" series ( by Raoul Cauvin and Willy Lambillotte) about the misadventures of two soldiers in the American Civil War, it's hilarious and sometimes poignant. |
