SUB Heading..It's the new TV again!:

I have not thought it worthy of mention before but ..the evenings with Janet's Soaps ..
recorded purely as a precautionary measure..
[and surely no reason WhyNOT?]
have been littered with 'No pic icons' and 'Failed to start at right time..' for more han a year..
Every evening it's Perm any of.. Emmerdale..Eastenders..Coronation Street and
i do not begrudge her the least in providing this service.
Most of the itme she watches with her old[Very] Sky box Remote anyway..
I have religiously checked the 2 channels Record and watch another as Graham advocates..Perfection!!
However the New HD TV has brought the matter to a nonsensical situation..
I thought that it would be nice to set up the new
HD for her to watch the Soaps..
At 10foot viewing she says it's the same anyway[and she's right of course]..
However.. i am left looking like a bumbling Fool..more so than normal..
as the screen is FILLED with Yellow options about cancelling this or that Reservation..
then the Phone rings ..
Hence a simple question for those 'Up North'..
Would a pretend Manchester Postcode solve most/all these problems and give me the brilliance of 1920 to boot..
I do hope so and if so what shall i type in please?

It's probably the ITV1-HD/ITV recordings that are causing the problem. ITV start the recording just as programme opening credits roll, recording stops as the starting credits for the next programme rolls so the adverts after the programme ends are recorded.

If the box is making back to back ITV recordings there is no problem, if however the follow up recording is on a different channel the programme often starts before the ITV one finishes. Left alone the box finishes the ITV recording chopping a few seconds off the start of the other recording and generating the failed recording flag.

If you happen to be around it's usually safe to just cancell the terminating ITV recording as all you are normally losing is the ads.

Changing your postcode won't make an difference the same happens with ITV1-HD Granada.

What you need is a second hdr

Sorry for my ignornace BUT isn't the Humax supposed to be able to record two channels at once?

It should make no difference if the next recording is on another channel.

It should just finish off recording Coronation Street (or whatever) on ITV, and start recording the other programme on BBC (or whataver) using it's dual recording capability.

Or am I missing something?

Edit - think I see now - she's already recording two other channels? If so, not a problem for me, as I rarely find anything worth taping, never mind three things on at the same time!

Precisely the problem only arises when 1 tuner is already being used to record so you only have 1 spare. This is the normal condition on my hdr

I've had this a few times.... and by the time I've read the dialogue box and tried to work out what to do it's disappeared.
I hate the 'failed recording' icon, though: it implies a major problem rather than a small 'bit missed'....
Its another of those Humax 'features' or foibles we all love, though .

I agree it's rather too much of a draconian warning when all you have lost is a few seconds at the beginning

The Samsung box just changes channel without asking when it needs both tuners to record.

The message on the HDR is scary when this happens and I just wait for it to go away

It would be nice if it actually said how much was lost.

I suppose it will always be at start since an ongoing recording should take priority, over the next.

Imagine missing the denoument at end of a 12 episode series !

What you need is a second hdr
Each with a couple of 1TB HDD in caddies!

Then all you would need was immortality to ensure you could view it all !

Or do speed reading to watch them at 64X with subtitles.

The Humax will do this too, but in this circumstance the dialog and the associated "failed" recording is for when two recordings are currently in progress and a third needs to start before either of the others have ended.

Other inputs agree that the Humax has a number of failings hence I am guessing that Andy and Swizz are very young people..and possibly did not read the detail in my input..careless of them?.. Yes..
Hence sarcasm based on their limited view of life only highlights yet another failing ..to put it kindly..
I do hope that both will now upon reflection agree with me that Humans very often do have different reasons for performing precisely the same actions..

I specifically said..
"..Janet's Soaps ..
recorded purely as a precautionary measure..
[and surely no reason WhyNOT?]"

Indeed my expensive security Camera recordings are only watched when the need arises..usually when the local police request assistance.

Janet is usually watching a Doggy programme [ONLY available on SKY ]when she switches over the very old SKY Box..to ITV ..The Humax in the lounge is usually in StandBY mode as we have never had an HD TV...
Indeed she is likely to be watching on one of the other TVs around the house..[The old fashioned SKY RF modulator is BRILL.]
The further reality is that the recordings are deleted twice a week 99% unwatched..
The Humax failings go back in time over a year..and relate to bog standard recordings not even HD.
IT was the arrival of our very FIRST HD TV on Tuesday that caused me to also observe the frantic yellow notices one evening..Hence my input...as i was merely ..as the Spec provides for..attempting to let Janet watch her first HD Programme...
which seems an entirely reasonable thing to do.

Knowing the HD TV was arriving ..
I set 'Midsommer Murders' to record ONCE a week in HD for 2 hours.. I see now that i have a collection of EIGHT 1 hour afternoon recordings clogging up the Drive..
Must we now watch them all?
On the premise that all recordings must be watched having been made.. shall i send them to you both?

I have installed another Hard drive Graham but on the USB slot on the new Panny..
Obviously no such hiccups on that as there is only one Freeview HD tuner..but in passing ..
the ' live Freeze Frame' is fantastic..and
the HDMI v1.4 provides for the future too.

Hi Stan,
You seem to have taken offence when none was intended. I sometimes let what passes for my humour run away with itself !

What I gleaned from your OP, & Graham's response, was that you get a clash when you want to record 2 items on different channels with one starting as the the other finishes. So do I.
The answer is probably as Graham responded, or I wondered if it was possible that one channel suffers from bad timekeeping.

I'll try, in future, to log events more carefully, but I've had clash warnings when I am watching one channel & the time of a recording approaches.

Another oddity is that clashes occur when I've booked a recording on BBC 1 & the HDR has additionally self booked another regional version of BBC 1, that I have not consciously chosen.

As I said I'll try to make better notes on this sort of event.

Yes, this is a problem with ITV and MSM.

For some reason they seem to put all instances of the programme in the same series so that if you want to see new episodes you get the split repeats in the afternoon clogging things up.

This one is normally the bbc's fault because of a screw up with the crids (only a series crid and no prog crid) or sometimes as a result of one region transmiiting a different episode. (Scotland comes to mind)

No long term issue Swizz..
I was suited up ..waiting to go to a funeral as it happens..but you were not to know that would be the situation when you wrote..
Humour is strange ..and complex indeed with the written word.
As for note taking ..SNAP..
I too have now started making notes on issues arising with the new TV..I'll be interested in your views on my inputs in the other forum..
A thought strikes me..
No..
I'll input as separate heading.

Regards
