Iced Buns and Belgian Buns
What is everyone's favourite.
Personally I think Morrisons ones shade it, 59p for 2 buns, with pink or white icing. Make sure you get the ones with 2 days in advance though as otherwise they were cooked yesterday and are not as nice. Very close second to ASDA Belgian Buns, 88p for 2, they are "chosen by you" according to the packet. And they did win the taste test on 3 Counties Radio ![]() Others that were average are the 2 they sell in our Co-Op - 1 is 2 for £1.19 (the Co-Op own brand), the others are the Local "Lees Bakery" which are 48p each. I find each of these 2 a bit stodgy. Worst is Tesco's, they taste cheap and feel cheap in texture, very sticky too. They are passable but trail a long way behind the rest. But in their defence, they are only 42p for 4 minature ones, even at their Tesco express petrol stations. Also, has anyone managed to buy a packet of 2 without eating them both at once. No matter how much I resolve to save one for later, I will always eat both there and then! |

I love belgian buns but am not that keen on iced buns wherever they are from. The latter are just soft white rolls with icing on top, whereas belgian buns have yummy things like raisins in them and sometimes lemon curd ( the co-op ones do ). I love the co-op belgian buns.

Belgian bun! http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_tXA6yzFPYJ...0/DSCF3456.JPG
I agree with LQS, much nicer than iced fingers which really are just like a bread roll with icing on. Put cream in either though and it improves them 1000 times over.

We call them 'rozijnenkoeken' (raisin cakes). We don't use that much icing and we don't put one of the radio active cherries on top ![]() I don't even think the are really Belgian, like Brussels sprouts are not really from Brussels. I don't like anything baked and sweet with raisins in it, but I'm glad you guys enjoy them

I used to buy these from Greggs but then they ruined them and launched new buns with a horrible lemon coating. I get mine from Waitrose now.

I love them both. If I ever buy a cake, it has to have icing on the top. If I had to chose, I would go for a belgium bun.

Iced buns (or iced fingers as I seem to remember them being called) are one of my favorite cakes! Don't like Belgian buns as don't like raisins!

Belgian Buns have nothing to do with Belgium.
They are nice though.

I like the ones from Starbucks they are pricey though but nice. On second thoughts they might be cinnamon swirls can these count?

Iced buns from the bakers are proper pastry fingers. Supermarket ones are just a white finger roll with icing on. Eww!

Here in the Netherlands we call them koffiebroodjes (coffee buns). Traditionally they're eaten with coffee between 10:00 en 12:00 (koffietijd).
We use the term "koffiekoeken" for a whole array of sweet buns. I prefer Berlijnse Bollen or Eclairs. Not that I often indulge, maybe once or twice a year.

Yes, people eat them with coffee here too, unless you don't like coffee, then a glass of milk, hot chocolate will do.

Waitrose Essential
I love the Waitrose Essential Belgian Buns; £1.09 for two. Unlike many others - such as Tesco & Morrisons - they don't contain egg from hens kept in cages; in fact, they don't contain egg at all
