Holy shit. Pia was eliminated.

B3: Jacob, Pia, Stefano
E: Pia

That is seriously the biggest Idol joke in years. I know Pia wasn't exactly the most unique singer, and her performance skills weren't great, but she can still sing rings around most of the others.

My interest has been at an all-time low for a while, but wow. :\

Gobsmacked.......didn't particularly like her but am utterly amazed that she went this early. Wonder what the judges think about using their' vote to save' vote so early?

They used the save way too early on an average contestant. Casey won't get anywhere, but Pia had real potential

Pia will be just fine, plus she'll get publicity while the show is on, due to the "outcry". She will miraculously pop up somewhere else. Don't believe it is genuine, not for one second.

Yep, that was a shocker. But, I hate the way the judges make the other one in the B2 feel like shit. i.e. Stefano, by saying that America got it wrong. No, it's wrong that the judges say that crap.

People obviously did vote passionately for their favourite. The other Idol's fans were more passionate than Pia's.

If she had gone at 5th or 6th I might be fooled, but ninth, rubbish. Bored now.

I was bored with her incessant desire to sing ballads every week, and her complete lack of stage presence and movement. It seems like America was too. I'm not sorry that she's gone.

Not really surprised, most overhyped singer in years, definitely not Top 10 Idol girls, maybe not even Top 20.

Re-watching the results live show and watching the reactions of the final 8 contestants, it was quite amusing to see the reactions of both Hayley and Lauren.
Both were smiling and looking relieved as they watched their main female competition getting voted off by the American Voters.
In contrast, all the male competitors were in total shock.

Anyways, I'm a little surprised but I'm not shocked that Pia left so early. I admit she can sing and sing very well, but found her performances boring and one dimensional.
If she'd relaxed and showed some personality she wouldn't have gone so early.

Quite a few people will blame Casey for all of this, being saved by the Judges, "a wasted save" some may say.
Well it isn't Casey's fault he was saved, the Judges in the wisdom (rightly so) decided to use their save on Casey as they thought he didn't deserve to go so early in the competition.
The fault lies with the Judges and their lack of honest critique. Week after week we hear them praising each performance, when it's even obvious to an untrained ear that some contestants didn't pick the right song, was out of tune or was "pitchy in some places" etc.
This is why AI is missing a Judge like Simon this year. (gawd never thought I would ever admit that)

Not at all surprised really. There's a reason this girl didn't make the cut twice before.

Pia has a reliable voice but zero star quality. She'd make a great backing singer.

I couldn't agree more with the second half of your post. They may as well not have judges this year.

I don't see how Pia could be considered the other girls' greatest competition when she's gone out in ninth place.

It's funny that the majority of those that posted here say that they are shocked she's gone but didn't particularly rate her themselves... Perhaps that's how America felt about her too?

Agree with this. Nice voice but nothing else there.

I'm shocked. I know Pia didn't have one of the most exciting personalities in the show, although she did come across as a really lovely person which probably means nothing in the show biz world of today - but she has a really good voice. I honestly don't know who's going to win this season, there is no realy stand out performer. Loved Jacob and Casey at first, but have gone right off them in the past few weeks.

Completely agree with you linnylou! Pia showcased a big weakness last night, as brilliant as she may be at a ballad, she simply doesn't have the personality to back such a big song as RDMH - in my eyes, it was more the song choice that let her down. By proving she couldn't master the art of performance on a bigger song was probably the reason she was bottom of the votes. And as for the early save with Casey, IMO that was a big mistake and could have been better used on Pia possibly. Have to say I'm surprised paul wasn't in the bottom 3 instead of Jacob.

I'm just bloody annoyed I didn't follow my gut instinct and put Pia bottom 3 instead of Lauren, I would still have gone for Jacob for the boot, but grrrrrrrr.

I don't think it was a wasted save, I'm not Casey's biggest fan by a long way, but he's more likely to do something interesting, Pia was very boring. Beautiful girl, lovely voice but absolutely no grit or soul to her performances, and covering a Tina Turner track showed that up big time - too controlled, too precise.

Sort of a bit surprised, I had her as my shock boot, just thought she had another week or so in her - hmmm, Haley looks more and more likely to finish top girl

For me, she was the most boring contestant in the competition, and I am surprised because I thought that she had more support, but glad that she hadn't.

Obviously it was.

I myself am shocked she's gone, but I said to my mum a few weeks ago that Pia wouldn't win. I expected her to come about fourth or fifth though. She's a good singer, but boring. Very much like Leona Lewis IMO, but what helped her win was that she was by far and away the best singer on her series of X Factor. There are other more well-rounded performers than Pia on this series.

My favourites are still in so I'm happy!

omfg. I predicted she would be second after scotty! Can't believe it. She didn't deserve to go this early when you have Haley grunting all over the shop, Stefano putting the same amount of emotion into every word (although i like his percy) and Jacob dry humping the songwriter.

Think so. Pia has a very good voice but just no connection with the audience. The others, in different ways, are able to look at an audience or camera and show some personality; those are the ones that pick up fan bases, she obviously didn't.

But she was attractive in a kind of unconventional way and I think that gave her a certain spark. Plus she seemed like a really sweet person and I thought female voters would like that.
I think she did connect with songs - she wasn't completely dead behind the eyes - but just didn't have, as they say, chutzpah.

Watching the clip, the judges faces are hilarious. Also stefano, who was obviously convinced that it would be him
