It was a bit shocking. The girls really are not having a good year.

But at the same time she was quite passionless in her performances even though technically very good. I especially thought that this week as that song really demanded a bit more feeling. Still, she would have been worth saving though if the judges hadn't wasted it on week 3...

I doubt that was the reason Chris Daughtry was voted out. I don't know why anyone was so surprised about him being eliminated in fourth when he had already been in the bottom two three weeks earlier.

The only reason it was a surprise he lasted as long as he did is because he isn't American born. The same with Carly Smithson last year. Both of them wiped the floor with the contestants who got further than them.

Michael being Australian didn't have anything to do with him going as early as he did IMO. There was a lot of voting spliting between him and David going on, the week he went MJ was seen as safe, whilst David was seen to be in trouble, the vote splitting stopped and the vast majority went to David, which cost MJ his place - David picked up his voting fan base and won every week after.

To be honest, much as I really like Papa Johns, he never really quite hit HW week again during the lives.

Carly, like her as well, but for me she did tend into screaming, rather than singing, at the top end of her register, do think her song choice cost her being top girl (and Syesha gave a very good performance).

BTW, David was hanging out with Carly last night in Vegas together with Luke Menard - and Jason Castro's going to be a daddy - awwwwwwww.

Michael Johns was completely average vocally, and he never had a 'moment', which David Cook did twice over with Billie Jean and Hello. There's almost always a standout performance which decides the outcome of a series - for example Jordin Sparks with I Who Have Nothing. Where Michael was better than all the other men in season 7 was in his sex appeal, charisma and performing skills, which made him look, if not exactly sound like a stadium band's front man who never made it.

Carly was something else. I loved her 'Blackbird' (which Cowell didn't get). She's also the only one who has satisfactorily tackled Heart's Alone in AI. Jacob's was too shouty from the off and Alison Iraheta didn't have the range, pulling back on the closing note on 'alone' which was originally sung higher than elsewhere in the song.

If it's still on youtube you should check Carly doing Baraccuda on stage with David's band during his tour, she's very good.

Michael did have a moment, it was just unfortunate his was during HW doing Bohemiam Rapsody - which is far too early, he never carried that buzz into the lives. But he still would have gone further, probably about top 5, if David hadn't been seen as in trouble that week. He wasn't the best vocalist that year, and no one was going to stop a David/Archie final, but he was way stronger then either Kristy or Jason.

Again for those who knock Paul, i look for someone whose voice i recognise as soon as its played, i get that with paul I also, however, get why people dont like him i always pick the marmite contestants (aka Danyl)

Oh no - poor Pia! I really liked her - she was a really good singer. I know she wasn't the most dynamic performer, but she was one of my favorites nevertheless.

Would rather have seen the back of Stefano, Paul, or Scotty - he is the weakest singer with the most limited vocal range.

My usual favorites are Lauren, James and Jacob - although I did not like his 'man in the mirror' comments and did not think that song was in the genre of 'rock and roll'.
