Im a first time cat owner and after some advice please!!

We got our female cat on Monday (a year old, was being re-homed) and she's been bought up on purely dry food. I had heard from a few people that dry food isn't good for cats and they should eat wet food (Is this true?!). So on Tues morning I put a Whiskas pouch out for her (next to a bowl of dry food) and she had demolished it by the time I came home from work Tues night (and some of the dry food too). She went to the toilet early hours of Tues morning, then early hours of Weds morning but nothing since.
Now I'm starting to worry that I've managed to bung her up with the wet food. She's still eating the dry food and likes the handful of treats I give her in the evenings.

So to any experts out there have I overfed her with the wet food and this is why shes not going to the toilet? Or could it be she's sad from leaving her old house (not that she acts it as shes very playful and loving)? Also she had her 1st lot of injections on Weds night as she hadnt had any previously.

There's a lot of debate about what 'good food' is for cats, but when you rehome a cat it's stressful for it and changing it's food is another stress.

A good quality dry food is OK IMHO - Hills, James Wellbeloved for example. You can leave it down all day, the cat can snack as it wants, but it must have fresh water available all the time. I notice my cat that eats mostly dry food drinks water, the one that refuses to eat it doesn't.

I guess you are talking about bowel movements rather than passing urine. Suspect all will sort itself out in a day or so, and no, I doubt very much that feeding wet food can constipate them.

Thanks for that and yes the bowel side, shes passing urine fine... I've been searching forums since 5am for answers and have read that they can get stressed with new surroundings so I'm hoping thats it. Doesn't help though when my boyfriend whos a nurse completely laid into me this morning saying I've overfed her and she'll probably die from a perforated bowel

I'm going to ring the vets when they open see if they can help with advice.

I doubt she has been overfed. I have two cats and they have two to three sachets of Whiskas a day each and there is a bowl of dry food left out for them as well. She's probably still feeling a bit nervous but it won't do any harm to have a chat with the vet

Thanks, I went and had a shower, came down and she'd been yay haha....typical worry over nothing!!

I am sure she is ok. I feed mine on wet and dry food. Wet food does make there pooh stink a bit more. Also when you change her over i would do it gradualy over a week or so otherwise it could upset her tummy. Gradualy reduce the amount of dry each day.
