Yesterday my Iphone ran out of power. I put it on to charge and went to bed. I noticed it hadn't made the beep it usually does or display the charging icon. This morning it's still not charged. I have cleaned the connections there was a lot of lint in there but still there;s no life from the phone. All it does is display an empty battery with a red line and a white plug icon.

Have you tried charging it from the mains and not from the computer?

Mine sometimes dies so badly that it can't be charged from my laptop,.

Sounds like your charger or the phone is broken then. Try another charger? a mates or something first. If that doesn't work then a little trip to the Apple store is in order.

Hey, have you managed to sort this yet?

The icon you describe is typical of an utterly drained battery, to kick start it you need to plug it in to the mains (make sure your using an iPhone charger, not iPod or iPad) and just leave it for a bit. It can take a few minutes for sufficient charge to be reached before it will turn on.

No Apple Store but plenty of Official Apple Resellers who will be able to help.

My mum had the same problem with her phone and it turned out to be a bad charger.

How many other problems have you had with the phone, you say you have been "plagued with problems"?

Doing the recovery mode technique does nothing. I have held down home screen and power button for 5 minutes and nothing excpet the screen with the empty battery icon.

NOTHING i do powers it back on. I have used 3 different cables and 2 different wall plugs. I have left it for hours.

O2 shop said they could do nothing. I am 1 month out of warrantly with a £35 a month contract left for 11 months.

Try an Apple reseller as previously mentioned. You are out of warranty but it would be expected that you would be able to use the phone for the duration of the contract so you may get a free or reduced replacement out of them. Apple stores have been known to fix things a month or two out of warranty, but I'm not too sure on how a reseller would treat it. Worth a try though!

Fair enough. Hopefully you'll get the outcome you desire.

I think it's worth it. The customer service in the Apple Store tends to be very good. Only a few months ago they swapped out my friend's iPhone 3G, which was obviously well out of warranty.

O2 have come back to me offering £50 towards the repair costs. I am going to the apple store tomorrow. I really think it would be terrible if they didnt repair it since it is a design flaw. On their website it shows you how to look for water damage but mine has never been damaged by water. Granted it has been dropped once or twice. But this is reported to be a software problem inherent in some iphone versions, it's definitely not hardware and not the battery.

They will more than likely just swap it straight out at the Apple Store.

I have a friend who had a sticky home button on her iPhone 4. She went in the other night and they just swapped her phone for a new one.
