Exciting news, potentially, for Pia fans!!

Is she set to have a Jennifer Hudson/Chris Daughtry moment?

Although she should have clearly stayed longer, I do believe that her leaving at this stage will be very good for her. (Most) people are surprised/shocked/angry about the result, so she will be remembered and be supported more in the future. She'll be fine.

I agree.

With the huge amount of past contestant/celebrity/Jersey Shore cast support on twitter/facebook, I think it'd be a wise move to snap her up quickly before she begins to be overshadowed and ultimately forgotten.

I hope she gets signed, but anyone who makes the live shows isn't allowed to sign anything until after the idol tour is over - even those who don't make the top 12.

I recall reading an interview with Kristen McNamara, (a really talented semi-finalist from 2009 for those who forget) who only made the top 36, and she said that even though she didn't get anywhere on the show, she wasn't allowed to do absolutely anything that summer because of the contract she signed. She couldn't even do gigs and weddings, which sucked for her because that's how she made her living.

A shock boot is better than becoming 2nd, but the shock boot came far too early. I fear she will become the next Michael Johns.

Mind you, Idol didn't do her much favours. They didn't show her audition, they didn't show much from her in Hollywood - thereby reducing the bonding with the viewers.

Add to that the lousy songs they gave her. She's great with modern/fresh sounding songs like "Doesn't Mean Anything" or "Grenade". But what the hell were all those Tina Turner, Whitney and Celine songs? They should have opted for something much younger sounding (I'm not necessarily hinting at the year).

Your Personal Idol: Back to Black/Firework/Sober (nobody will check whether Amy Winehouse or Katy Perry or Kelly are her real idols)
Year You Were Born: Man in the mirror
Motown: End of the road
Elton John: Can You Feel The Love
Rock & Roll: Whole Lotta Love

Would have suited her IMO much better. And they really, really should cut Motown & Elton John & Birth Year. Don't get me wrong, I adore all those Motown artists. But it's a time which is past us, Idol is looking for an Idol for the FUTURE, not for the past.

Yeah, thats what annoyed me with the song choices!

That was the song that won me over... Rehab by Amy Winehouse and she did it SUPERBLY. Grenade and Doesn't Mean Anything were two of her best performances, in my opinion. Idol really screwed her over!

She's nowhere near as good as Michael Johns who like his fellow season 7 contestant, Carly Smithson, paid with the American's public lack of interest due to not actually being American by birth.

They showed no more and no less of Pia than of any other finalist this year. This has been a big complaint by critics and bloggers this year. The show wanted the public to vote for who they were impressed by on the night or since the start of the live shows and not by their back story.

Unlike X Factor, AI contestants have a big say and in many cases the final say in what they sing and don't sing. The song choices were down to Pia. She herself has said since that she fears anything that involves movement or performance or anything other than what she has performed for years and is comfortable with.

Your personal idol: Well ............. actually ............... yes they will and they will ridicule it if someone makes unlikely "choices". Do you think anyone would have supposedly heavy metal rocker James as being a McCartney fan? But he is and anyone who checks that up will see it. The other thing they will also find out is that the heavy metal rocker schtick is something he has moved towards because he thinks he has a rock voice.

Year you were born: There is nothing more ridiculous than a woman singing Man in the Mirror. A few previous female contestants on these shows without an ounce of wherewithal or understanding of the lyrics have made the mistake of singing this.

Motown: You suggest a ballad. How adventurous for Pia!

Elton John: Ohhhhh, what a shock!!! Another ballad. That would have helped her cause.

RnR HOF: Whole Lotta Love? Are you serious? After Adam Lambert's performance of it, any contestant who attempts it on AI may as well commit hari kiri live in front of millions.

Sadly, Pia was doomed from the start. Firstly, she was a contestant who it was well known had not got past audition the first time and had been eliminated at Hollywood week the second. Secondly, the hype the judges put out about her in the first week was only going to impress as long as she showed that she was worthy of it and hadn't simply performed her party piece that week. Unfortunately, she didn't and it was only a matter of time before other contestants came into their own and she was left trailing due to not progressing from her initial impression. Finally, when she did attempt something different from the ballads that she had been criticised for, she was unable to do two things at once.

Chris Daughtry came fourth. Big difference. The cut off point at which the record company will consider giving a contract substantial enough to cover adequate promotion and production values is fifth. Pia may get a contract but it will be a cheap one with songs rejected by others, rush production, no promotion other than the legwork she puts in herself and no radio plugging.

Jennifer Hudson's success came after she won the Oscar (and even so, it's not spectacular - 700,000 sales worldwide) so unless Pia has plans for a change of career direction, I doubt we are going to be seeing her emulate even Jennifer's sales.

Have you even been watching this season of American Idol?

Stefano had never even heard of "Hello" until he performed it, suggesting it was picked by a third person. Lauren Alaina was shown having her song picked by a woman who worked for Iovine's record label.

The ability to pick songs doesn't appear to be correct in this season. Pia also said herself that she prefers uptempo to ballads, which is indicated in the fact 98% of her pre-idol songs are up-tempo with the rare ballad.

There is a lot more "guidance" being given to the contestants regarding song choices than in previous years but that is primarily because none of them have an imaginative bone in their body. There is no Lambert, Cook, Daughtry or Bice this year. There isn't even a Kris Allen.
