Best mainstream rock act of the 2000s
I will admit: I don't like most of the mainstream rock music of the 2000-2009 period. To be honest, I think most of it was a pile of dog shit.
But I am curious which acts people actually think were the best. My choices here are either based on popularity amongst the yoof, sales, indie acclaim and some are based on all of them. I can't fit everything in and bear in mind this is a choice of acts that became commercially and critically prominent in the 2000s, not comebacks for older acts, indie/underground acts and so on. |

some of those to me arent mainstream rock acts! but i voted for muse!
Brilliant live and consistently good albums. Several of the bands are too indie cuture still for me with elbow and the likes. I still dont understand the hype behind the arcade fire. Got their albums and yes there good but there is nothing wow behind them. I come from a more emo/punk rock background and have to say one thing... IF panic had brought out a similar sounding emo pop record instead of the folky pritty odd then i think they would be one of the biggest bands right now! |

What about The Killers? They've pretty successful in recent years, and I would definitely put Mr Brightside, When You Were Young, Spaceman and Human within some of the best mainstream rock songs since 2000s, not to mention how anthemic Hot Fuss is
Anywho in the meanwhile, I have decided to vote for Arctic Monkey's |

Not in the list, but my fav of the 2000's is The Darkness. Proper classic hard rock.

Went for Arcade Fire though. Probably the most consistent band of the decade. |

I didn't want to add Green Day or the Foo Fighters since afaik they already released stuff that made them popular in the nineties (Dookie and loads of Foo Fighters songs). If I added them I'd have to add Radiohead, Placebo, Oasis and a bunch of others who became popular in the nineties and have remained popular up to 2009. I just wanted to see what bands that came around suddenly >2001 people think are the best, although in that case I probably shouldn't have added Slipknot...
I forgot about the White Stripes though.. arghhh! I will just assume that if they were on my craptastic poll that I can't edit they and the Killers would probably be 2nd/3rd position. |

Went for Muse, although gotta dispute a little bit of this list...Slipknot shouldn't be on it, as they're metal, not rock. Call me pedantic if you like, but if Slipknot are on it, then equally high-selling 21st century metal acts like Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet For My Valentine should be as well, and that's a whole new can of worms.
Elbow most definitely aren't a rock band either...but other than that it's a decent list ![]() In terms of lesser known 21st century rock acts I'd give my vote to The Answer, Alter Bridge and Sixx: AM. But I think it has been a much stronger decade for metal music than rock music. |

Muse and Arcade Fire are the only 2 consistently good bands in that list.
Out of the two I prefer Muse's music and live performances, so I went with Muse. |
