I think personally on reflection I would narrow it down to either the White Stripes, The Libertines, The Strokes or Queens of The Stone Age.

Probably The White Stripes for consistancy.

if they were the choice ii could dismiss two with ease.... i dont rate the libertines nor strokes, unlike the white stripes and qotsa i dont think they took old sounds and furthered them. tws and qotsa did.

You can't rule out The Darkness

This was a difficult one for me. I love The Strokes, Arcade Fire and Evanescence, but picked The Strokes!

If The White Stripes were on the list then I'd probably pick them. The Killers, Kings of Leon are other artists I love!

Plus if Coldplay are on the list, then Snow Patrol/Keane would apply too?, both have been quite a success.

Good shout.

I also think the Yeah Yeah Yeah's deserve a mention (even if as the decade went on they veered further and further in the direction of electro/disco.

I honestly don't think there are many acts this decade that can claim to have produced:

1. As good a ballad as Maps.
2. As good a straight forward rock track as date with the night
3. As good a dance floor filler as Zero or Heads will roll.

As well as 3 albums and 2 ep's without any filler over the ten years, and some of the best live appearances of the decade. All that as well as having one of the great front women.

I know the haven't been the biggest comercial success, but I think if Evanesance of Panic! can qualify then they should be ok
